NOTE: if qt5 apps are still not recognizing .flif files even after package installation, you probably need to update mime database: update-mime-database ~/.local/share/mime

Sorry but I would rather not.

Given how rarely the PKGBUILD is updated, would it be an acceptable workaround for you to have a local fork that removes the qt4 stuff?

Can you please split off qt4 so you do not need qt4 to build the qt5 plugin?
