The package doesn't need to depend on quassel. The submodule pulls in phhusson's other project, QuasselC, which is independent from quassel core-client and is statically compiled into the library.
It is also not makedependent on irssi, but _is_ dependent on glibc, like irssi, and can technically exist without irssi though it is not useful without it.
Finally, the package name should be irssi-quassel-git to be more appropriate with Arch package naming conventions.

mmm the quassel depend does not resolve with yaourt, maybe this is because oif the recent AUR update, and requirement of using mkaurball which includes some more info in the source tar.

This depends on quassel because to build the plugin, code specific to quassel is referenced, specifically the core-client protocol.
