I have now added codec2 as an optional dependency. It is available in AUR and can, if needed, be used for multiple programs.

I guess it depends on the use case. I only have hiqsdr at the moment so quisk's inbuilt option probably is all I need so long as it keeps up with new modes. Someone with a traditional tcvr as well as SDR might be interested in freedv as a standalone, but then I guess they could install that separately anyway. Maybe I'm not the best one to give an opinion!

Yes this is of course possible. But wouldn't it be better to use the freedv and/or codec2 packages from AUR to provide these system-wide instead? I could then add them as optional requirements? What do you think?

As part of the install is it possible please to mv the freedvpkg folder across as well?

You did not install. Run makepkg -i -A.

not working .... even at the terminal ... if i type "quisk" i get -bash: quisk: command not found but if i try makepkg -A (at the computer that its on) it says its already installed

If it is installed, you should be able to run with just 'quisk'. But you say you are remote, this is a GUI app.
