As others have written, this is unfortunately the last OSS version of Rambox.
OSS alternatives:

Ferdium has very active development. It's based on Franz which is was stable fork of the open source version of Franz.
Hamsket is based on an older version of Rambox OSS.

AUR package of the new closed source pro version of Rambox: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/rambox-pro-bin

@kungfu thank you so much! :-)

kungfu commented on 2022-04-25 12:42 (UTC)

Just in case this is helpful for anybody... Since Rambox moved to a "freemium" model, or has discontinued the OSS... you can switch to hamsket here: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/hamsket-bin

It is a fork of the OSS Rambox.

This is the last update, they stopped the OSS version, sadly.

Indeed, and this is the community edition repository: https://github.com/ramboxapp/community-edition - as it indicates, it's currently on 0.7.9 , released on August last year.

@bittin please read the latest comment right after yours...

This package is for the so called "community edition" of Rambox which is open source. I asked the rambox devs if community edition is discontinued/dead. If it is, it might make sense to switch this package to follow the new closed source edition (2.0).

Till then, this package is not "out of date", the closed source version is available here: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/rambox-pro-bin/

2.0 released

janek commented on 2022-01-17 11:46 (UTC)

@trustin This PKGBUILD is packaging the prebuilt binaries of the open source community edition which is still on v0.7.9. As long as the community edition is not discontinued, I think it makes sense to keep it like this.

There already is an AUR package "rambox-pro-bin" for the "Pro"/closed source version of Rambox. It's already on v2.0.0

For anyone looking for a more active open source alternative to Rambox: Have a look at "Ferdi" (aur: ferdi-bin / ferdi)

@Kudlaty: Could you please try again? I changed the PKGBUILD as suggested.

I'm wondering why this is an issue on your machine though, because $_pkgname equals to "Rambox" which doesn't contain spaces - so the resulting argument for "ln" should always be a string which is safe to pass without quotes.

What shell are you using?
