I saw that ffmpeg doesn't allow to add subtitles in easy way for now. I would try mencoder, but can't force minidlna to transfer mencoder's output to my TV

tydell: I took a look at the possibilities of subtitle transcoding. It seems to be rather problematic, because conversions between subtitle formats requires additional information that is not available at the time the subtitles are served, such as the framerate. However, I'm convinced it is be possible to achieve similar results by hardcoding subtitles during transcode. You will probably want to execute transcoding for all videos in that case (because it may be necessary to hardcode subtitles into otherwise supported formats too). To make this easier, I just added an option "all" to force transcoding of all files to minidlna.conf (see the comments in minidlna.conf for more details). Then you should be able to provide a custom video transcoding script, that takes video and hard codes subtitles in it. I think mencoder would be good choice. Google something like "mencoder hardcode subtitles", there are lots of howto's on this.

tydell: executing transcode for subtitles is certainly doable on the minidlna side. The problem is that I can't find any command-line tool that is able to convert between more than two subtitle formats, such as sub2srt. I'll try to think up something.

I wish to see support for subtitles transcoding from srt files or something similar, but it looks like ffmpeg doesn't allow to do this

Added support for image transcoding using ImageMagick. Note that ImageMagick uses ufraw-batch for processing RAW images by default, which is very slow.

Update * now minidlna-transcode is able to transcode audio * the package installs the example transcoding scripts to /usr/bin/minidlna-transcode_{audio/video} and sets them in the default config.

Fixed. I just copied the service file from the minidlna in [community] without checking it.
