This is how a succesfully (manual) run looks in "journalctl -u reflector":
mag 26 16:18:26 arch-laptop systemd[1]: Starting Pacman mirrorlist update...
mag 26 16:18:42 arch-laptop systemd[1]: Started Pacman mirrorlist update.

"journalctl -u reflector" is what I previously posted. No, there are no succesfull runs EXCEPT the ones I manually started.

@darkbasic
Well, reflector itself is failing. But there is no difference between a .service started by hand or by .timer. Can you give a »journalctl -u reflector«? Are there successfull runs?

If I start reflector.service manually it works, otherwise with reflector.timer enabled I get this:

-- Reboot --
mag 23 00:00:31 arch-laptop systemd[1]: Starting Pacman mirrorlist update...
mag 23 00:00:38 arch-laptop reflector[5409]: error: failed to retrieve mirror data: (The read operation timed out)
mag 23 00:00:38 arch-laptop systemd[1]: reflector.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE
mag 23 00:00:38 arch-laptop systemd[1]: Failed to start Pacman mirrorlist update.
mag 23 00:00:38 arch-laptop systemd[1]: reflector.service: Unit entered failed state.
mag 23 00:00:38 arch-laptop systemd[1]: reflector.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.
-- Reboot --
mag 24 00:00:18 arch-laptop systemd[1]: Starting Pacman mirrorlist update...
mag 24 00:00:24 arch-laptop reflector[5306]: error: failed to retrieve mirror data: (The read operation timed out)
mag 24 00:00:24 arch-laptop systemd[1]: reflector.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE
mag 24 00:00:24 arch-laptop systemd[1]: Failed to start Pacman mirrorlist update.
mag 24 00:00:24 arch-laptop systemd[1]: reflector.service: Unit entered failed state.
mag 24 00:00:24 arch-laptop systemd[1]: reflector.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.

Daily timer is too frequent. Weekly is enough.

Updatet package yesterday. All bug fixes (quotation) and feature requests (network-online.target) included.

Could you please resolve the comment added by TCGman? It would save a lot of us from doing systemctl edit reflector.service ourselves.

I noticed that systemd strips away all the quotes from the command specified in reflector.service and breaks functionality. This might be a huge problem. The only way the service works for me is if I set my country like this:

COUNTRY=\"United Kingdom\"

I need to escape the quotes in /etc/conf.d/reflector.conf. Otherwise nothing works.

I believe the correct syntax to resolve this issue is to have the command like this:

ExecStart=/usr/bin/reflector --age "${AGE}" --country "${COUNTRY}" --latest "${LATEST}" --number "${NUMBER}" --sort "${SORT}" --save /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

Then all this is resolved.

Thank you TCGman!

Please add quotes around $COUNTRY in reflector.service. Otherwise problems arise when countries have spaces (such as united States).
