I was able to open Roam using --no-sandbox as well
I tried the PWA route you suggested, and you know what, it works quite well. Thanks for the suggestion!

@legionnaire I tried passing command line flags to the binary from the Roam-team provided .deb (which is what this AUR package uses to install from) and it doesn't seem to accept flags. Otherwise, I'd have you try passing some flags like --in-process-gpu
or --safe
to see if those would help. Apparently, those flags have helped others who saw similar errors from other electron apps.
You could try reaching out to the Roam support to see if they can help you troubleshoot (please post back here if you do find a solution!)
Alternatively, you could avoid this package and use the progressive web app :) I pinned a comment with more details of how to install that in case you're not aware that that's an option.
If you're already using Chrome browser, YOU MIGHT NOT WANT TO INSTALL THIS PACKAGE. It will create a separate instance of the Chromium engine, consuming more resources than needed. Instead, try the progressive web app version of Roam. You'll still get a desktop icon and all that, PLUS it works with browser extensions.
Hey, so Roam started crashing on open. Here is the log:
[XXX@XXXX-mag152070 ~]$ roam-research
APPIMAGE env is not defined, current application is not an AppImage
Starting server on port 3333
Listening on port 3333
[25174:0915/120706.505073:FATAL:gpu_data_manager_impl_private.cc(415)] GPU process isn't usable. Goodbye.
Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped)
Thanks!
@akshayshah thanks for the suggestion! Fixed in 8f25abd329cb
This is great! By default, the installed binary doesn't end up on the user's $PATH
. Would it make sense to place the binary (or a symlink) somewhere else?
