@cbrnr I do not use KDE either.

@Atom194 it's probably not necessary, I just left it in for good measure, since I don't use KDE myself (so I can't test it). Can you try if everything works as expected in KDE if you do not export this variable?

@cbrnr
Is
export KDEDIRS=/usr
neceserry in cbrnr PKGBUILD? [1]I do not know what the
KDEDIRS
variable does. I am guessing that it is only necessary for KDE users?[1] rstudio-desktop-bin | cbrnr commented on 2023-07-17 08:32 (UTC) (edited on 2023-07-17 09:34 (UTC) by cbrnr)

@Meow
Is there a reason why the package does not add an executable to
/usr/bin
?Simple
ln -s /usr/lib/rstudio/rstudio /usr/bin/rstudio-desktop-bin
should do the trick.Could this command be added to PKGBUILD?
cbrnr commented on 2023-09-11 13:45 (UTC)
The new release does not contain the menu entry, again. Users will wonder how to start RStudio. Is there a particular reason why you ignore all comments related to packaging and other improvements?

Conflicts with
rstudio-desktop-git
,rstudio-desktop-preview-bin
are unnecessary because they both providerstudio-desktop

The latest PKGBUILD, which includes a fix for the missing desktop icon, drops the
openssl-1.1
requirement, and has some convenient improvements regarding the two version strings and the multi-lineecho
at the bottom, is available here:https://gist.github.com/cbrnr/9bad76d97ff17e37980cf40416fc5596
@Meow it would be great if you integrated these fixes. Or is there a reason why you think this is a bad idea?

@antipersistent
while I understand the rstudio-desktop-bin package has the path issue but please avoid to create duplicated packages and try to collaborate with the rstudio-desktop-bin package to fix that

@Meow I would like to second cbrnr's comment. Would it be possible for the maintainer to update the PKGBUILD so that the binary is on the PATH by default? Currently I am using hopimet's fix (2022-12-26), but ideally this should be corrected natively.
I also tried the new rstudio-bin package, but rstudio-desktop-bin is currently much more popular, so a fix here would be useful to many people.
cbrnr commented on 2023-06-19 10:10 (UTC)
@antipersistent I am aware of the comments in the other package. I wanted to point out that now there are two packages that provide RStudio (binary), which is not ideal from a user perspective. Given that
rstudio-desktop-bin
is way more popular, chances are that users are going to try that by default. So I was just wondering if you and the maintainers ofrstudio-desktop-bin
might be interested in joining efforts to provide just one package for RStudio. In any case, thanks for providing a working version!« First ‹ Previous 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 .. 29 Next › Last »
