As already pointed out just over a year ago, there's no issue in regards to rtc.
The issue is described by Rui at http://lists.linuxaudio.org/pipermail/linux-audio-user/2015-August/102254.html and as already pointed out by the bug report link by my comment from 2015-08-07 09:25, the issue could be solved by adding the complete name, instead of just using snd, rtc has nothing to do with it at all. Somebody run into the same issue this year, see http://lists.linuxaudio.org/pipermail/linux-audio-user/2016-December/106848.html .

There's nothing a packager could fix, but inexperienced audio users should be warned and not forget to check rtirq status.

@Ralf_Mardorf: I don't have that issue, but then I'm just packaging the program. If you believe there's a bug in the program, then it's better to contact rncbc:

http://www.rncbc.org/drupal/node/865

or modify /etc/conf.d/rtirq and add rtc to RTIRQ_NAME_LIST.

Hi,

that RTC priority is unimportant nowadays was discussed at LAU and/or
LAD, however, there's a serious issue, since it is possible that a
sound device doesn't get the needed priority.

The bug was reported at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1482347,
but it affects Arch too.

Regards,
Ralf

@blackhole: the pacnew file isn't used by rtirq.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pacnew_and_Pacsave_files

I had a look at it today, and notice that the old line is in fact still there. This change was made by Rui Nuno Capela:

I think that this last version has some problems:
The default line in rtirq.conf.pacnew is --> RTIRQ_NAME_LIST="snd usb i8042"
However without rtc as first item in some configurations usb priority will be higher than rtc0 priority, not good.

I think that this last version has some problems:
1) The default line in rtirq.conf.pacnew is --> RTIRQ_NAME_LIST="snd usb i8042"
However without rtc as first item in some configurations usb priority will be higher than rtc0 priority, not good.
2) After rtirq reset, if I change the line to RTIRQ_NAME_LIST="rtc snd usb" I have nonetheless firewire and snd_hda_ (what is snd_hda_ ??, it is not snda_hda_intel for example) set to high priority

I understand that is not a packaging problem, but..where could I eventually contact the author? Thank you

@david.runge:

Thanks for the clarifications - fixed.

@epicurious:

The systemd service file needs to be in /usr/lib/systemd/system/ (not in /etc/systemd/system - that's where you do system modification!)

Change "To use it, add rtirq to your daemons or start it manually:" to "To use it, start rtirq with your system or start it manually:
systemctl enable rtirq
systemctl start rtirq"
in rtirq.install (systemd has no daemons).

Small update, but it required a reboot on my system: moved the rtirq script to /usr/bin/ (the PKGBUILD edits rtirq.service to reflect the change).

rtfreedman commented on 2013-04-23 20:19

There is a typo in rtirq.service
-ExecStop=/etc/rc/d/rtirq stop
+ExecStop=/etc/rc.d/rtirq stop
