I don't know about suffering. I installed this package, inserted the module, and it's been working fine since.

I have read a few days ago this lkml, thanks anywar for the mention. I can understand the mantainers, but.. we are suffering for this. I hope the RTW88 adds support for our wireless card in the start of 2020

A while ago I stumbled upon a mailing list thread where kernel developers explained why they didn't want this driver. I can't find the thread now. Apparently this driver is unreasonably large (~200000 lines of code), which makes it difficult to maintain.

will it be mainlined some day in the kernel tree? I don't understand why if there is an opensource official driver by realtek for this card it wouldn't be mainlined in linux :s Do you know something about this?

Thanks SOOOO much for this! This is the only way I can use my laptop on WiFi.

I have tried editing the pkbuild and putting the git of the person who make the pull rquest directly, is working in 5.3, yes, but in 5.2 for me is broken... Ask people in github it the fix broke pre 5.3 kernels support

@tomaspinho I'm not used to work with github, if you put another branch with that pullrequest for triying it I will try, but I don't know how to merge a pull request in master branch, sorry, I am useless..

tomaspinho commented on 2019-08-14 07:11 (UTC)

@agm28011997 We have a Merge Request open with preliminar fixes for the 5.3 kernel, which no one else seems to have. That would be a good branch to test if you would like to help out.

We are currently copying endlessm sources, which are themselves sourced in multiple zip files from Realtek.

Rtw88 is in the process of being mainlined, but everything is a shit show when it comes to drivers from Realtek. There are multiple heated discussions on the lkml complaining about the driver's quality. Rtl8821ce will eventually be included in Rtw88, but won't be in the first batch.

Only a few questions more. Do you need some testing with some branch? Will you copy the endless os or Alan github for your dkms module? Do you think in a future will the driver be mainlaned? ?

Yes, it is working :)
