@iamnotork: Famous last words. :)

Hey, guys. It seems like vanilla driver is working now. No more need for this project! Still many thanks to tomaspinho and others!

The shutdown issue still persists for me with this commit and WLAN does not work too although the networks are at least displayed but connecting to them fails.

@tomaspinho Testing fix-buffer-overflow-6.5.1 branch with verbose debug logging. Wifi OK, boot OK, can't shutdown, caps lock light keeps blinking (kernel panic?).

Let me know if you need anything else or a specific flag passed to journalctl command.

@reclipse thank you for the kernel debug log shared

Although I think the error depicted is not related (it's about how the module is reporting MAC addresses back to the kernel), I have a fix for it here, if you want to test: https://github.com/tomaspinho/rtl8821ce/pull/333

@tomaspinho the problem is occurring when shutting down the PC actually and not booting. The screen goes black and caps lock key keeps blinking but PC doesn't actually shut down. I mistakenly thought boot was failing. After I do a force shutdown by holding the power button, it boots normally. @nnamreg please check your system too.

As for grabbing a kernel call trace, I have no idea how to do that. This is what I found after some research: https://pastebin.com/n1w064gx

@nnamreg @reclipse Thank you both for testing. Fixing this goes well beyond my kernel module development capabilities, unfortunately.

Would you be able to check if you can grab a kernel call trace after a failed reboot so we see where it's breaking? Should be in your journalctl/dmesg.

@tomaspinho I've tested the fix on 6.5.2 and I'm getting the same exact experience as @reclipse

reclipse commented on 2023-09-12 15:10 (UTC)

@tomaspinho it does work but when rebooting computer starts with a blank screen and caps lock light keeps blinking. Force shutdown by holding the power button and then starting the computer again boots the OS normally.

Hello, we're attempting a fix for Linux > 6.5.1 here: https://github.com/tomaspinho/rtl8821ce/pull/332

Please test it and provide feedback if you are able.
