About my previous comment, I just removed all the downloaded aur files and aurget downloaded fresh stuff, and it just compiled fine. I guess I had old, messed up content in the build directory that was causing the issue.

I'm getting the "Unable to load base fontset, please specify a valid one using -fn, aborting." error, as well, but only on a newly-installed instance of Arch Linux: it still works fine on the installation I've had for years (on another machine). Both are (trying to) run rxvt-unicode-patched 9.22-9, which implies that it's not the package itself. Additionally, the rxvt-unicode-cvs-patched-wideglyphs package doesn't work on the machine that's failing on this package. I'll report back if/when I figure it out. [Time passes.] I didn't have pkg-config installed on the new machine, which meant all the feature checks during configure failed. Installing pkg-config resulted in a working rxvt-unicode-patched. Solution: please add pkg-config as a build dep.

@kylebaked I maintain this package, but use https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/rxvt-unicode-cvs-patched-wideglyphs/ myself (with xft fonts), which is quite similar. I do not think it is related to the update / rebuild. Can you try rxvt-unicode-cvs-patched-wideglyphs maybe?

After updating perl and rebuilding I'm getting the following when trying to launch: "Unable to load base fontset, please specify a valid one using -fn, aborting." It appears this is related to using an xft font. I can confirm that urxvt is able to use non-xft fonts and that xterm can use xft fonts fine. Is anyone else experiencing this or is this just something on my end?

Created https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/rxvt-unicode-cvs-patched-wideglyphs/ Maybe it helps!? It also contains the patch for reporting focus events and other niceties/fixes not released yet.

@madnight there are several patches in here, and the crashing one was enable-wide-glyphs.patch, which is not included here. I am using another PKGBUILD based on the cvs version with it. I can publish it in case anyone is interested. Not sure if it would help in your case - maybe it is related to wcwidth(3) even, in case tmux is using another method?! Check the ISO14755 mode: press ctrl-shift and click on the glyphs. Then compare it between tmux and non-tmux.

Hi, this patch finally solves all my font problems (powerline + awesome) for powerlevel9k. Hower tmux does seem to have problems. It does not crash for me like it does for aflavio but take a look: normal: https://i.imgur.com/f4pd7Rc.png tmux: https://i.imgur.com/VUYpGO1.png rxvt-unicode (urxvt) v9.22 - released: 2016-01-23 zsh 5.3.1 (x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu) tmux 2.4 archlinux 4.10.13-1-ARCH Maybe the problem is on tmux side, but vte terminals (e.g. termite) works with the same font.

I'm not sure what option fixed the chronic issue I was having with powerline glyphs not rendering/aligning properly. But for anyone who it might help this version of urxvt fixed it for me. Having poured hours into trying to find a solution/manually patch fonts/blame hidpi...
