If you want to install to your home directory, you would not use an AUR package. PKGBUILDs always put their files in global directories for all users to access.

@Morn I do not know nothing about hosting. my stupid ideas: host on github, backup on torrent or host on interplanetary filesystem and upload rainbow tables to meet upload criteria there. If serious hosting would be possible, it would be really cool. question: could you move the install destination path in the makepkg file to home or make the install to root optional??

@leenux: Yes, why not ask them? If you know where else to host the file.

Or if they go to their Google Drive share settings for those files and generate direct download links (if Google Drive still supports it) and give them to us for the PKGBUILD, that might also be an option.

I wonder what GitHub's current stance on hosting large data files > 1 GB is. In the past, there was a risk they would suspend your account if you hosted huge files like that…

@Morn. Understood. Thanks. Yes, you are right, downloading and copying stuff for completing an AUR install process isn´t the right way, specially when the AUR install scipt ain't doing anything else then downloading and copying the files. If this accurate Salamander piano version 6 is gpl or cc license, we are allowed to download and upload again. We can contact this japanese webpage and ask about downloading to another public available repository. Should I?

@leenux: Yes, this looks like an interesting update! Unfortunately the files are hosted on Google Drive and there are no direct download links for the files on the site. (Apparently only the owner of a file on Google Drive can create such a download link.)

Without direct links, it will become be one of those slightly awful PKGBUILDs where you have to download the source files yourself in the browser and move them into the PKGBUILD directory first. Not very convenient, especially not for people who use AUR helpers…

But maybe somebody else has an idea how to handle this Google Drive situation elegantly from the PKGBUILD?

@Morn: Thank you for your support. Somewhere I have found a newer version of Salamander piano. Maybe I am wrong and that this not a legit, not a good, not an official one: https://www.ir.isas.jaxa.jp/~cyamauch/AccurateSalamander/ If I could, I would

@leenux: Where is the newer version? http://freepats.zenvoid.org/Piano/acoustic-grand-piano.html still has v3 from 2020. And https://sfzinstruments.github.io/pianos/salamander/ also has v3.

Hello, there is a new Freepats version of this soundfount available. Also, the url for the one you're referencing is no longer available. That version, however, remains available here: https://archive.org/download/SalamanderGrandPianoV3/SalamanderGrandPianoV3_48khz24bit.tar.bz2

The new version is Version V3+2020-06-02, see https://freepats.zenvoid.org/Piano/acoustic-grand-piano.html
