I experience the same bug as Antunes (scid crashes on engine quit). The bug is only present since the rebuild. As a workaround, you can "quit" the engine with "killall gnuchess" (or whatever engine you use) to avoid the crash.

@Antunes: I was talking to our alleged maintainer to rebuild the damn thing so that it starts with new tcl/tk, it wasn't meant to solve your bug. Sorry for confusion

Antunes commented on 2012-12-30 11:37 (UTC)

I have rebuilt my scid with the new tcl/tk libraries, but the crash I described earlier remains.

Please rebuild scid with new tcl/tk (/usr/bin/tkscid: error while loading shared libraries: libtcl8.5.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory). Thanks in advance.

Hi, sorry I never cared about it from the beginning. I did a simple test and the entry worked worked. Thank you so much for your help... how can I say "no" to such nice request ;-) Cheers

Hi. Can you please add a .desktop file in /usr/share/applications/scid.desktop ? For a menu entry... Image file (from scid homepage): http://a.fsdn.com/con/icons/sc/scid%40sf.net/scid.png # from http://sourceforge.net/projects/scid/ # or # http://scid.sourceforge.net/img/icon.gif # from http://scid.sourceforge.net Desktop file: [Desktop Entry] Version=1.0 Name=Scid Comment=A Free Chess Database Application Exec=(/usr/bin/)scid Icon=(/usr/share/scid/)scid.png Categories=Game;BoardGame; Type=Application Terminal=false StartupNotify=false # scid.png goes to /usr/share/pixmaps to recognize as "Icon=scid.png" otherwise the full path must be specified "Icon=/usr/share/scid/scid.png" # scid is already in $PATH so specifying the full path in "Exec=/usr/bin/scid" is not necessary just "Exec=scid"

Hello all, I just adopted this great package... the old PKGBUILD contained very old syntax and a somehow not so straightforward/clean installation procedure. I already rewrote the PKGBUILD from scratch therefore I increased the release version to reflect the fact that now it is a different PKGBUILD from a different maintainer. In principle this package *SHOULD* work pretty much the same as the previous release (4.3-1) so if you do not feel like updating it feel free to skip this one or give it a go and please report back if you encounter any issues and I gladly will do my best to sort them out :D Enjoy and cheers,
