I can confirm that still in November 2020, rm /opt/scrivener/lib/ as su or sudo works as a charm. Doesn't launch before this.

I can confirm as of late October 2019, that the method of deleting (or moving) /opt/scrivener/lib/ still works and the scrivener app can be launched afterwards.

The Linux version of this program is essentially aging abandonware, but I STILL prefer it over other “similar” programs that I have tried and I have tried many. After a while, trying to find an actively updated replacement just starts to feel like time wasted not using a program that currently works well for me. I very much welcome something new and improved but at a minimum has the features that I rely on now. However, I know of no reason not to use this program until that becomes, in my opinion, an actual option. [/lifestory]

Thanks to Revelation60 for making this available for easy installation and additional thanks to caseyjp1, ksteak and TrevorBramble for their help so that people like myself can start it up now.

Confirmed. After rm /opt/scrivener/lib/ I can launch Scrivener again.

FYI: Scrivener has been abandoned since January 2, 2016.

@caseyjp1 - I was getting this same error with both aur and tarball from their forums. I looked it up and found somebody with the same error in mathmatica that fixed by deleting freetype. I went into the lib folder and removed and now scrivener will launch.

As of fairly recently scrivener is broken with this error:

/usr/bin/scrivener /opt/scrivener/bin/Scrivener: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/ undefined symbol: FT_Done_MM_Var

Bump... can anyone confirm whether they are/are not able to play MP3 files within Scrivener?

taylo45 commented on 2016-08-24 21:52 (UTC)

I believe it is implemented in the Linux build. When I select an MP3 that I've added to the project, the "play" "fast forward" and "rewind" options under View > Media are greyed out. There's also this on the L&L forum: Tried running from CLI, no errors given. All likely relevant libraries are installed. Tried rebuilding scrivener, no change. Suggestions?

Perhaps you are missing some libraries? If you run scrivener from the command line you may capture an error message. I haven't tried if this feature works for me. It could also be that it's not implemented in the Linux build.
