It would be great to:
- not put the .desktop file in /etc/xdg/autostart as izahn said
- provide a systemd entry to be able to start selenium server like any other service with systemctl

izahn commented on 2015-07-09 16:55

IMO it would be better not to put the .desktop file in /etc/xdg/autostart. I for one don't actually want it running constantly.

Has somebody done floreal suggestions from below? Can u share?
Cause i have to run server manually:
java -jar /usr/bin/selenium-server-java
running:
systemctl start selenium-server.service
does nothing.

Maybe should switch to: phantomjs probably faster and headless as well.

alperkanat commented on 2013-04-02 18:06

If java-runtime isn't installed before, $JAVA_HOME is empty so selenium-server-java is linked to the wrong path. JAVA_HOME needs to be populated first.

Selenium server should be launched in a XVFB framebuffer.
There are two reason fort this:
- On a developer / tester / whatever, it allows runrning browser without being bothered with poping windows
- On a server (which can be part of a selenium grid), that may not have a GUI
I made a debian package which contains an init.d script. Feel free to study and adapt it to any other service management system (systectl, rc, etc.)

Using FF18 and selenium 2.28.0. Using the java -jar command to run it manually, it works, but installing from this AUR does not. Perhaps this error is related to systemd running it as 'nobody'?

UnhandledWebDriverError: Unable to connect to host localhost.localdomain on port 7055 after 45000 ms. Firefox console output:

v2.26.0-2 has systemd support thanks to nharward

smerik commented on 2012-11-13 15:14

Because of my holiday I was not able to update to v2.26.0 which has been released more than a week ago

Anonymous comment on 2012-06-29 05:15

@smerik - no rush on my behalf. I already have it on my system then wound up having to install it on Windows anyway since IE is required for what I'm doing :P

Bump to v2.24.1

@nharward: sorry for the delay. I saw your pull requests last week and I will take a look at it tomorrow

Out of date, but just changing the version to 2.22.0 and using the new hash, fa3e7e7ff9bc99643180c1a8e0512cfa, works.

A bug in /etc/rc.d/selenium-server prevents server arguments with spaces in /etc/conf.d/selenium-server.conf. Here is the patch:
[x@arch ~]$ diff -u /etc/rc.d/selenium-server selenium-server.fixed > selenium-server.patch
[x@arch ~]$ cat selenium-server.patch

When started as daemon using rc.d, and a test is requested, selenium-server-standalone does not start firefox. However, if selenium-server-standalone is started from the shell without using rc.d, firefox is started fine. I wonder if this is a bug specific to arch?

timdiels commented on 2011-02-20 13:31

Downgraded from 2.0b2 to 2.0b1 again due to bugs.

timdiels commented on 2011-01-31 13:07

Adopted, current version should support screenshots :)

MD5sum from 2.0a7 is 4522575474b46cfbf65035cf6d57d2d6

manouchk commented on 2010-12-16 13:06

The package is out-of-date. Newer version is alpha 7. Nevertheless, in both version there is screenshot bug
http://code.google.com/p/selenium/issues/detail?id=940

Which was solved only in the trunk on 31th october (r10112)

http://code.google.com/p/selenium/source/detail?spec=svn10404&r=10112

Anyone konw how to build selenium-server or selenium-server-standalone from trunk? Would that be possible to prepare a PKGBUILD from svn trunk?
