It seems that you didn't tell shifty about your taglist widget (it's needed for creating textbox to enter the name of newly created tag). Just write something like "shifty.config.taglist = <your-taglist-widget>" prior to "shifty.init()" call. Hope that helps!

i get this error when i try to run "shifty.add" via keybinding in rc.conf W: awesome: luaA_dofunction:108: error while running function stack traceback: /usr/share/awesome/lib/shifty.lua:114: in function 'rename' /usr/share/awesome/lib/shifty.lua:398: in function </usr/share/awesome/lib/shifty.lua:397> error: /usr/share/awesome/lib/shifty.lua:114: attempt to index field 'taglist' (a nil value)

Changed depends to "awesome-git" as it should be.

As I can see, mentioned repo provides shifty lib for stable awesome (look at the end of init.lua - it uses old interfaces add_signal and remove_signal instead of connect* and disconnect*). If you confirm that it is compatible with awesome-git, I'll give it a try.
