this is not true (about "only one fix"). I have explained nature of this crash in my comment. TL;DR: another workaround: downgrade openssl package to version 3.6.2-1

@matthewq337 You filed a merge request against my simplex-desktop package on 2026-05-16, arguing that yours was "more up-to-date". Three weeks later: upstream is at 6.5.4, your package still sits at 6.5.2. Two minor versions behind, multiple unresolved crash reports in the comments, no response to UnkwUsr's openssl/zstd report or IAmHugh's JVM SIGSEGV.

If you can't keep the package current, disown it. I'll adopt and maintain it properly.

I couldn't get SimpleX to load so I tried from the terminal and got the below.

simplex chat started crashing on systems with installed openssl-3.6.2-2 (last working was openssl-3.6.2-1) with the following text in logs:

As I can see, this is due to the fact that openssl since version 3.6.2-2 started linking against zstd. And since simplex-chat dynamically loads openssl, it brings its zstd symbols which results in collision with zstd symbols statically built into simplex chat itself.

I'm not expert in that, but LLM hinted that we need somehow make those symbols in libHSzstd-<...>.so do not leak into global dynamic symbol namespace, to prevent collision with system's installed zstd. Probably at building step.

made a pull request for 6.5.0 on codeberg.

also upstream has started providing PGP signature verification for the x86_64 appimage. might make a PR for that when i have time.

It is very strange that PKGBUILD contains sha512 sums (and only them), which github release page don't have. This makes impossible to manually check checksums between PKGBUILD and upstream source, before downloading actual files.

Article on arch wiki recommends to use checksums from upstream:

The checksum type and values should always be those provided by upstream

I suggest either replace sha512 with sha256, or add sha256 to have both of them.
