If something breaks on PKGBUILD side, please bother me directly on freenode (usually available at #slic3r)
XS compilation requires more than 512MiB of installed RAM, adding same amount of swap makes it build (tested on armv7h, Allwinner A13)

heads up to those running off of master:

321b1a9 was the last commit that compiled without changes for me. After that, a big old branch (code written in mid-2014) was merged in commit dbcc41e. It introduced a dependency on Devel::CheckLib so adding perl-devel-checklib to makedepends fixed that. It also made some changes to it's Boost dependency (see upstream announcement here: https://github.com/alexrj/Slic3r/issues/3117 ). So adding 'boost' (which includes dev headers) fixes that.

tl;dr to run off master add 'boost' and 'perl-devel-checklib' to makedepends

Perl 5.22 state:
After patching perl-extutils-cppguess slic3r:xs compiles, and passes both sets of tests
As for GUI though, perl-opengl is broken - but if you are brave enough you can just disable check stage of that package

a-14 shouldn't break $pkgver standards anymore (a-13 produced package with invalid '-' character in $pkgver; i.e 1.2.6-dev . If this happens again pkgver() will fail)

I also moved git/dialog stuff to pkgver() and finally disabled that useless message about detached head, so if it fails with with pacaur or similar aur helper - please reach me directly over mail/irc [swiftgeek, #slic3r @freenode]

From slic3r related news - please test new plater/gcode 3D previews
1.2.x is going to hit stable soon™

swiftgeek commented on 2015-01-04 05:35

Quick reminder - whenever you recompile perl-wx, recompile perl-wx-glcanvas too (no need to recompile slic3r though)

swiftgeek commented on 2015-01-02 16:57

Ugh… bad news - slic3r version moved to ./xs/src/libslic3r/libslic3r.h
#define SLIC3R_VERSION "1.2.4"
(was ./lib/Slic3r.pm)
Which means that i need to add some logic there (the other purpose of this package is semi-automatic bisecting of printing issues)
#Comment to be removed upon resolving issue

swiftgeek commented on 2015-01-02 16:49

1. Cannot fix that, binary repo's packaging of perl package is ultra weird, perl-*-aur packages are provided as temporary workarounds (until resolved/updated in binary repo)
2. I need to fix awk line separately, i procrastinated on this issue for way too long (31C1 happened and…)
I cannot reproduce »anymore« that warning happening in tests - 69da8b09997c58c3f47d1e676fe578f68cbb96e9

pzl commented on 2015-01-02 16:26

two things I currently have to do to get master (69da8b0) to build correctly:

1: I installed perl-threads-aur
2: I added another sed line to the PKGBUILD, just below the others, to remove the line that parrots out the "threads.pm >= 1.96 required" warning. ( sed -i '/^\s*warn \"threads\.pm/d' ./lib/Slic3r.pm )

There seems to be a logic problem in lib/Slic3r.pm that makes this warning print out no matter what. I believe I have the threads dependency satisfied, but the warning prints out anyway, and disturbs the version number checking, which leads to a corrupt package. The warning had to be silenced for makepkg to build correctly, and end up with a tar package that didn't have the warning itself in the filename.

Here's a small gist I created that prints each of the tests used in the Slic3r check before it prints the warning: https://gist.github.com/pzl/b53064b335457c417dbd

If anyone else can shed some light on what's wrong here, I'd love to hear. I'm not too familiar with perl

swiftgeek commented on 2014-11-09 20:49

My packages are quite different - if human user is detected it provides means to configure package by `dialog` ways, as human interaction opt-in. Otherwise behaves like any other PKGBUILD or guesstimates configuration :]

Interactive is needed when dealing with software in weird licenses (like nvidia installer sh/binary bundle - accept license to unpack image; requiring in license conscious agreement to license)

Sorry for assuming that you were not ok with missing interactivity.
And ofc thanks for semi-pointing out missing way to change commit/branch from PKGBUILD itself

pzl commented on 2014-11-09 19:38

"Pacaur is ... aiming at speed and simplicity, designed to minimize user prompt interaction" -- I believe this is a design decision.

I'm also fine with non-interactive package installation. A google for "aur interactive pkgbuild" gives this forum link as the first result: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=141372 which discourages interactive pkgbuilds anyway. it's easy enough to just edit the pkgbuild, so that's why I left the note for people who edit as well (I didn't realize other AUR helpers accept interactive prompts)

swiftgeek commented on 2014-11-04 16:50

I would consider it as a wrapper bug - tty responds with "not a tty" - which clearly isn't the case as you are using terminal
(yaourt responds there with value from which was spawned eg. /dev/pts/5)

Seriously, this is a huge bug - one of the easiest way to debug (or create package one-time-only) is to insert `bash -i` inside package/build etc
pacaur/cower just floods std input with "Y"... That's retarded

pzl commented on 2014-11-04 15:49

I use pacaur as an AUR helper, it skips interactive mode entirely

swiftgeek commented on 2014-10-29 18:44

Interactive works everywhere (tested with yaourt/standalone) [if not describe bug]
TODO: Make sure to not break "fragment" in source line

I introduced _gitfragment variable (line ~36) to pass either branch or commit (I have to make it work with fragment vcs nicely)

for anyone else who's been building off of master instead of stable (this being a git package and all), the last working commit for me is 33edda0. After that, the retraction tests fail because of the retraction refactoring immediately after this commit. commits around ed17c22 fail because the config test fails (fixed in 01133fd) but the newest commits immediately segfault for me.

To install at this commit: if you use the interactive installer, just specify commit 33edda0. If you use an AUR helper, edit/view the pkgbuild before installing and edit line 105 from "git checkout stable -f" to be "git checkout 33edda0 -f" and resume installing

Here is my train of thoughts:
https://gist.github.com/swiftgeek/4c673a28060109bcdd69
Soon™ patch or merge with master depending on compatibility of this solution with older perl (remember it has to work with 5.14 too!)
Works with 5.20 and master, now i'm going to sleep cursing haskell version-dependency hell :]
EDIT: passes all tests fine but segfaults at startup o.O

Ayehow commented on 2014-06-17 22:28

prove is not in PATH, please modify check() to call /usr/bin/core_perl/prove .

Even after fixing that, all test fail on "Can't locate XXX.pm in @INC". I have zero perl knowledge - is this a real module or some kind of forgotten placeholder?
Edit: after skipping tests and installing, the slic3r.pl fails with the same error.

That's not compilation, but optional tests (great if all good, but most of the time tests itself are broken) -.-

But produced binaries will fail on generating gcode anyway (now only)
same thing has to be changed in slic3r codebase as in latest perl-math-clipper
If You have any skills with perl - You can easily patch it
(don't expect maintainer to fix upstream codebase)

o1ivier commented on 2014-06-13 17:50

perl-boost-geometry-utils is not needed anymore, also it wont work on perl 5.20
Finally optdepends are visible in aur ;)

swiftgeek commented on 2014-06-05 15:59

But perl-boost-geometry-utils is still not ready for perl 5.20 (upstream issue, similar to perl-math-clipper last update)

swiftgeek commented on 2014-06-05 14:48

About perl upgrade:
pacman -Qsqm "^perl-" | tr '\n' ' '
Recompile until everything from list is fine ^^

swiftgeek commented on 2014-01-09 13:55

Changing default branch from master to stable as master doesn't pass tests lately (and most probably it will stay this way)

swiftgeek commented on 2013-12-23 16:15

Rewrite to overkill git dl (vaguely following VCS guidelines) in progress. Will allow for optional manual/predefined select of branch/tag/commit , so eg. if You want to just have latest fixes for last release - You can just configure it to stable branch and use changeling script + cron to force update during next (so after cron job is executed) `yaourt -Syua` or similar

swiftgeek commented on 2013-11-22 09:14

This should be useful for determining if it's good time to update / whether it's your fault that Tests are failing:
https://travis-ci.org/alexrj/Slic3r/builds

swiftgeek commented on 2013-11-20 07:30

Should be fixed now - but PKGBUILD/yaourt isn't detecting conflicting slic3r-xs… dunno how it will work out in future

swiftgeek commented on 2013-11-20 07:05

jamar commented on 2013-06-05 14:11

Seems like the only problem with new perl version is that lexical $_ and smartmatch are now considered experimental, thus generates warnings and sauses script fail to compile. A quick fix for now is just suppressing those warnings by adding:
no warnings "experimental::smartmatch"; and/or
no warnings "experimental::lexical_topic";
to affected files.

Updated PKGBUILD and patch is here:
http://jamar.veska.info/files/slic3r-git.tar.gz

I haven't tested it thoroughly, but at least it builds and run.

And everything if f* up again due to new perl release :/

For now we can only make things works by using http://perlbrew.pl/ (i do not use it, it's just a general recommendation for situations like this). Remember to not try to use it from used user (create new one, safe to delete) as CPAN and other similar inventions tends to mess up things.

If there is a perl hacker among us - patches welcome :>
For now other things are having much higher priority.

In case of any strange errors - downgrade perl below 5.16 ( http://arm.konnichi.com/ )

"Running Slic3r under Perl >= 5.16 is not supported nor recommended\n"

perl-math-planemath has an invalid package version. 77 is too old, 84 is the newest, 79 is the current minimum

"Sedded-out" fake dependecy of slic3r: growl

swiftgeek commented on 2012-06-23 12:27

There was a shitload dependencies in between so probably first few people who install will get many trouble ;).

Every missing dependency is on official repository or AUR (or my hdd in the worst case)
