@bbaovanc thank you for solving this so quickly🙏

bbaovanc commented on 2025-03-15 21:19 (UTC)

It has been fixed in (cfitsio 1:4.6.0-4)[https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/packaging/packages/cfitsio/-/commit/5994fd28a32f4b81620d610f4fef20d4eb23d21d].

Doesn't seem possible to define a range on conflicts, so I'll just make it anything below latest for now so it's (hopefully) less confusing for people.

@bbaovanc the cfitsio has been updated:

usr/bin/cfitsio-imcopy
usr/bin/cfitsio-smem
usr/bin/cfitsio-speed

I believe, you can remove the conflicts=('cfitsio')

good.

You guys are right; I can see now after diffing cfitsio 4.5.0 and 4.6.0, compiling the smem binary from them is enabled by default now by the CMake config.

I'm hesitant to rename this executable:

  • not sure what a good name would be, given that this is the original smem
  • could be confusing to people updating the smem package
  • is it even intentional for smem to now be included in cfitsio Arch package and break compatibility? I may have to ask them

I submitted an issue in the cfitsio package so hopefully someone from the Arch team can help decide

/usr/bin/smem now in pkg cfitsio. can be renamed?

This latest update is indeed in conflict with the cfitsio's /usr/bin/smem

error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
smem: /usr/bin/smem exists in filesystem (owned by cfitsio)
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

Interesting idea with renaming this AUR's executable, in order to avoid main repo's package executable conflict.

Maybe the executable from this package should be renamed to avoid conflict!
