@ShayBox: I'm afraid I don't really understand what you mean. Are you suggesting that I extract the usr/bin/smuview binary from the appimage and install that?

You should be extracting the appimage with --appimage-extract and installing the files in the appropriate locations, not just copying the appimage itself, there's no need for a pkgbuild to do that, appimagelauncher better integrates that type of installation.
