Hi, been looking at this a bit more and I think the repo you're using is the wrong one (your own fork?).
I may be wrong, but
<https://github.com/irino/softflowd>
would appear to be more up to date (having commits in 2017/18/19), is owned by one of the committers to the code.google.com repo (giving it some provenance, and I believe Irino is the official current maintainer of the project) and offers a 1.00 version dated 2019-08-16. It's also the upstream used by Debian [1] and Ubuntu. Both repos stem from the same code.google.com repo and diverge at its head (Oct 5, 2014). Your fork only has the addition of your travis ci file.[1] https://packages.debian.org/sid/softflowd

I think your dependency on automake only needs to be a make dependency; automake is required to build the package but not to install and run it.
