@lockheed, killing SpiderOak with the killall command should be safe. If you expect to do this regularly though, I would recommend that you investigate if --batchmode would be better suited for you.

If I run spideroak --headless and then kill it with 'killall SpiderOak', is there a chance it may break the installation, or is it the safe way to terminate the process? If not, then what other way is there?

Is there a reason why every time SpiderOak is updated the spelling in the name of the shell script that launches it switches from "/usr/bin/spideroak" to "/usr/bin/SpiderOak" and then back again? With the capitals, without the capitals, with the capitals. With just about every update I have to go in and change the menu commands and startup commands that launch spideroak, because the shell script spelling keeps changing. Not a big deal, but it is a bit odd and consistently inconsistent.
