Just wondering, is there any particular reason, why mt, rmt(smt) are not being build? Especially, since mt-st is only available via AUR as well and not part of the base system, there is no danger of a conflict, like with tar.

http://freecode.com/projects/star and https://apps.fedoraproject.org/packages/spax/sources/ are the closest to the source than ubnutu, but the real upstream is http://sourceforge.net/projects/s-tar/files/. maybe switch to upstream insted of ubuntu? also 1.5.3 last version, so need update anyway mwahahah.

It should be working now, I have removed most of the useless manpages.
