You install into /usr/local/etc/. Proper packages must not install into /usr/local/. Please use /etc/, and configure the build accordingly so that the configuration is looket up in /etc/. (If the software does not offer such a buildtime or runtime configuration, consider filing an upstream bug report and if you have capacity, patch the software.)

Can you use export CARGO_HOME=${srcdir}/cargo in prepare(), build() and package() so that rust does not clutter the user's home directory?

PKGBUILDs must not write stuff outside $srcdir or $pkgdir.

Package fails:

==> Starting package()...
install: cannot stat '../syngestures-switch-ws': No such file or directory

Note that you must not use the leading ../, but use ${srcdir} instead, the files must be listed in the source array (or retrieved from downloaded sources).

Reason: Users might have set up their source download, build and packaging directories at custom destinations in /etc/makepkg.conf.

syngestures.toml is present at ${srcdir}/syngesture-1.0.1/; syngestures-switch-ws and syngestures.desktop could not be found.

Thanks for the comment, I completely forgot about evtest. Now it's listed as a dependency.
