$ LANG=en_US.UTF-8 yay -S taskcoach
 -> Could not find all required packages:
    python2-twisted (Wanted by: taskcoach)

FabioLolix commented on 2021-03-30 16:38 (UTC)

that is happening because Arch https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/any/python-twisted/ have have "replaces=python2-twisted" which can't work for this pkgbuild.

python2-twisted pkgbuild need to be created and "replaces=python2-twisted" need to be removed from python-twisted package

+1; same issue. But I don't have testing enabled.

Hi rchaput, thanks for the workaround!

It's working again! Really great!

With nice regards. Martin

Hello,

I have the same problem and made a fix; this error is caused by an exception when trying to parse the Twisted package's version (which is, on my machine, '18.7.0dev0'). In my case, this is the '0dev0' part the problem (can't be represented as an int, hence the ValueError).

I can think of two workarounds: - the first one would be to have a different version of Twisted. Perhaps upgrading or downgrading this package, using either pip (for Python2.7) or an ArchLinux package (e.g. python2-twisted, in the extras repository). I don't like this option, because this could break other packages (amongst other things) - the second one would be to prevent this bug directly in taskcoach's code.

I prefer the later, however, this requires to change the source code in '/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/taskcoachlib/application/application.py'. Here is a small fix I made, which works on my machine (I can't guarantee at this point that this will work for you, but I certainly hope so):

Replace the lines 161-167 by this code:

try:
  if int(twisted.__version__.split('.')[0]) < 11:
    from twisted.internet import reactor
      if wxreactor.WxReactor.callFromThread is not None:
        oldStop = wxreactor.WxReactor.stop
        def stopFromThread(self):
        self.callFromThread(oldStop, self)
        wxreactor.WxReactor.stop = stopFromThread
except ValueError:
  pass

Basically, it is just wrapping the if inside a try..except block.

Hello.

I also have exactly the same problem like "Vitrum-cnkj34kr8".

Also same output. Did somebody have an idea how to fix? I really like taskcoach and need it for my work.

If you need some informations about my system let me know it. I use Manjaro Hakoila 17.1.12 with XFCE 4.12.

With nice regards

Missing dependency for wxgtk2 that includes the file wx/wx.h. And url in SourceForge isn't working no more. You can use maybe one of those: <https://fossies.org/linux/misc/TaskCoach-1.4.3.tar.gz> <https://netix.dl.sourceforge.net/project/taskcoach/taskcoach/Release-1.4.3/TaskCoach-1.4.3.tar.gz>

Thanks

AmadoMartinez commented on 2017-08-05 18:32 (UTC)

I was able to install taskcoach by renaming the twisted dependency to python2-twisted https://www.archlinux.org/todo/twisted-python2-twisted-rename/

ben_2361 commented on 2017-03-05 20:02 (UTC)

Just thought I'd post my workaround for getting this up and running: 1. Went to the website and discovered that the software is supposed to work with wxpython2.8 or newer. 2. Patched the depends on the PKGBUILD to 'wxpython>=2.8' 3. When I attempted to run taskcoach.py after install I got the same error as snuffop so I implemented the same solution as nv2r/Delitum. Now it works. Not sure if it's the "proper" solution but it works and I have my favorite task organizer back.

dark-saber commented on 2017-01-25 15:27 (UTC)

wxpython2.8 was removed from AUR

Delitum commented on 2016-10-06 07:32 (UTC)

same worked for me: mv pyparsing.py pyparsing.py.bak mv pyparsing.pyc pyparsing.pyc.bak

nv2r commented on 2016-09-11 22:34 (UTC)

I had the same problem and solved issue by deleting files /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/taskcoachlib/thirdparty/pyparsing.py /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/taskcoachlib/thirdparty/pyparsing.pyc (found about pyparsing that may be the cause here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=209485)

skualito commented on 2016-09-10 19:10 (UTC)

I had the same problem. The fix for me was to uninstall python2 and all related packages and reinstall it. I don't know which package was causing the issue, some posts on the net mention pyparsing...

On the current version of task coach it will fail to launch. I'm not sure how to debug as I cannot figure out how to launch it from the terminal to see the output. I assume this is because it is launched via python.

Updated to 1.4.3 - Added libxss as a dependency

hennels commented on 2016-01-18 16:30 (UTC) (edited on 2016-01-18 16:30 (UTC) by hennels)

I found out that taskcoach uses libxss by trying to run it on a system without libxss. You might want to list it as a dependency.

ok got it, the latest version of taskcoach will not work with wxpython 3.0, but there is a wxpython2.8 package in extra that it works with. The "depends" line of the PKGBUILD and the "pkgver" just need to be updated and the latest version of taskcoach will work fine.

CPUnltd commented on 2014-01-16 19:04 (UTC)

running into the same problem with this package on 3 64bit machines. I actually need this program for work purposes, so the faster this can be taken care of, the better...

madeinnz commented on 2014-01-16 04:07 (UTC)

Does not run on latest Arch x86_64, when launching complains of requiring wxPython greater than or equal to 2.8-unicode, and says I have installed 3.0-gtk2. The package I have installed is wxpython 3.0.0.0-2. Perhaps taskcoach does not work with wxpython >= 3.0? I installed taskcoach 1.3.35 and same problem. Any ideas?

I am getting an error when launching taskcoach: Couldn't load a PNG image - file is corrupted or not enough memory. This is non a fresh x86_64 arch install (I was not getting this error on my previous x86 install). Is it possible a png is getting corrupted during unarchiving or installing? Is it possible to run taskcoach with debug to find out what file is causing he error?

I'm getting this error when I'm trying to open pdf or any other file attachments in taskcoach 1.3.30 : Desktop 'X11' not supported (neither DESKTOP_LAUNCH nor os.startfile could be used) Btw I'm running Xfce. Is there some package I should install or file I should change to make it possible to open attachments from taskcoach ? Anyone had similar bug ?

fraca7 commented on 2013-07-23 17:43 (UTC)

Ouch. Probably a reference-counting bug in wxPython... I'll have to install Arch to reproduce it and try to find a workaround.

Unfortunately the application still exits while it's recording time. I've started it on the command prompt to see what happens next.

commented on 2013-07-15 07:05 (UTC)

I can confirm the sRGB message is gone. And it immediately starts with the right file also. That was a problem also with the previous version. THX ! If by the end of the day the clock is still ticking, I'll let you know. :-)

fraca7 commented on 2013-07-10 19:03 (UTC)

We don't have logging (yet?). It could maybe help if you could launch Task Coach from a terminal, in case there are some hints on stdout/err when it crashes.

commented on 2013-07-09 09:57 (UTC)

Thanks ! The only additional clue I have is that the vanishing only happens while there's a task running. The tray icon does not disappear when in idle state. Maybe that's of help ? Maybe logging of some kind can be switched on ? Then I can send you the content.

fraca7 commented on 2013-07-07 15:59 (UTC)

I just released 1.3.30 which fixes (1). Can't reproduce (2) yet.

drencrom commented on 2013-07-03 13:22 (UTC)

I have seen error (1) in other programas as well (ie. gimp), I think it is related to the new version of libpng. I have not seen error (2) so I don't think it is related. Maybe you should try running the program from a console to see if there is any log when the program dies.

commented on 2013-07-03 07:06 (UTC)

Really nobody with this error ?

commented on 2013-05-29 09:52 (UTC)

For some time now: (1) Error when starting up: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile (2) Exits after a while. The tray icon vanishes. Maybe related to (1).

I am having a problem updating taskcoach from aur using yaourt. It will make several attempts to download the package with the package size changing. Then the following message is received: curl: (47) Maximum (50) redirects followed ==> ERROR: Failure while downloading TaskCoach-1.3.11.tar.gz Aborting... ==> ERROR: Makepkg was unable to build taskcoach.

To solve this problem you need to add the line usesm = False to the [feature] section of ~/.TaskCoach/TaskCoach.ini See http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3502180&group_id=130831&atid=719134

I changed line 216 in /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/taskcoachlib/powermgt/xsm.py to self.conn = SmcOpenConnection("", to make this version of taskcoach work for me. Including a wrapperscript (/usr/bin/taskcoach, for instance) that sets SESSION_MANAGER to "" is also a possible solution: SESSION_MANAGER="" taskcoach.py
