Hm, okay... I now added a plexpy home dir to the plexpy.install file. The plexpy.install file will as well change the home dir to a valid directory, if the home dir for plexpy is nonexistent. But this will only work if the plexpy service/process is not running while upgrading. Hope this works for everyone and thank you @Sparticuz for letting me know.

Don't know how, but the user plexpy got created wanting a home directory. The shadow service was failing because of it. I fixed it with 'sudo usermod -d /dev/null plexpy'

Version with 'echo "v$pkgver" > version.txt' is now pushed to aur! ;)

Ah, so 'echo "v$pkgver" > version.txt' is correct, I thought the comment ate your original from the email I got. ;)

After I submitted my previous comment, I checked the logs in PlexPy and realized that command in the 'prepare' function wasn't going to work. The Github API works properly if you pass the tag, but not the hash of the tag. I updated my comment to reflect the change.

That seems to work fine, here is a git format-patch that does it along with changing a couple tabs to spaces. https://ptpb.pw/FWyq

The reason the -git version works is because the Python script will check for a .git directory and do the version checking against the Git information. The following will resolve this problem. Add this line to the 'prepare' function: echo "v$pkgver" > version.txt Add this line to the 'package' function: install -Dm644 version.txt "${pkgdir}/opt/plexpy/"

The file isn't in the release's tar.gz, so this seems like a behavior that is intended or should be fixed upstream. The package isn't built from the git sources, rather from point releases. If you make a plexpy-git aur package, it'd come from git and have that file and work like you'd expect. I think your choice is that or file an issue upstream.

When I "Check for Updates" I get an error stating "You are running an unknown version of PlexPy. Run the updater to identify your version". This happens because /opt/plexpy/version.txt does not exist. The content of this file should be the version you are installing. Please add this file with the appropriate information so this error does not occur.
