certainly not inside the home but on a disk perhaps as well ntfs. a somewhat snappy configuration. among other things I had to use a workaroud for thunderbird due to an absurd bug I found. however the profile is there and readable.

@simona: Are there any errors in journalctl? Perhaps your profile is corrupt somehow.
I have several GB of mails going back to 1990 as well. But I have switched from mbox to maildir some years ago following this advice: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/thunderbird-from-mbox-to-maildir.389599/
I've never regretted this switch. TB works absolutely stable and fast with maildir.

some time has passed and I don't remember very well, but the most serious problem is not so much the functioning of the mail unloading but the access to my old mail imported from eudora from 1999 onwards. however I have done various tests, such as having him do the new account and then copy into my old one. or change the current profile and point it to the old one. but when he accesses the old one he says he can't use it and recreates a new one every time. so now I have also forcibly blocked the update. for me it is more important to keep access to old mail than to download new ones (however for now and probably for years it will also continue to work even if the old version is not updated). but certainly this thing is incomprehensible to me. I think it's dozens of gb of old mail.

@simona: FWIW, I have a profile with 3 POP3 accounts, 3 IMAP accounts and some RSS feeds. Everything works flawlessly, even those add-ons that worked with v. 68 (exception: QuickFolders - but there is a development version which works with TB 78). As mentioned I only had to start thunderbird with the -p switch and select that profile (and not the automatically created default-release profile).
Do you have any error messages?

I think I just copied the profile folder content to the newly created profile folder and all worked fine.
