Just a small Issue, but is it possible, that this package, does not provide the thunderbird icon? The installation provided desktop file points to icon thunderbird, but it seems missing, so I am only provided with the Wayland logo

I had to add StartupWMClass=thunderbird-esr to /usr/share/applications/thunderbird.desktop. Otherwise tools like "Dash to Panel" gnome extension does not recognize the window after launching.

This was probably a temporary failure. gpg --receive-keys 5ECB6497C1A20256 works for me.

Public key is not valid
gpg --receive-keys 5ECB6497C1A20256
gpg: keyserver receive failed: Server indicated a failure

IMO there's no need for a separate package: if TB follows the same schema as Firefox (https://whattrainisitnow.com/release/?version=esr), this situation of 2 concurrent esr (128 and 140) is happening only for 2 months (july and august); on september, 128 will be EOL, leaving 140 the only esr.
The mantainer of firefox-esr-bin usually switches immediately to the new esr, while I prefer to keep the old one as long as possible; so, during this period of concurrent ESR versions, I usually update the firefox package by myself. I suppose the procedure for thunderbird would be much the same, so no problem for me.

So, we would have to make two esr packages, one thunderbird-esr128-bin or so for people who want to stick to 128ESR and a thunderbird-esr140-bin?

Hello @andreas_baumann and thanks for your maintenance work on this package :)
Here's an explanation of the thunderbird channels: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/choosing-thunderbird-release-channel
Esr is always behind (or at least at the same stage than) the 'Release' version.
128esr is not EOL yet: tomorrow we will have a 128.13.0esr https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/128.13.0esr/releasenotes/
You can find the release announcements (and peek at the future) via this rss feed: https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/releases/atom.xml

Again, I have difficulties to understand the versioning schema: why should 140.0.1esr be newer than 139.0 (the release) version? Is 128esr now end of life? So are they just declaring an arbitrary version to be ESR. Fine, so, an update to 140 from 128 will happen. Be warned, there might be no way back for your local data/config directory..
Also I have to fix the nvchecker config, it seems to have failed to show me the 140esr version..
The irony is, I'm not even using thunderbird anymore since years. :-)
Also note that the i686 subarchitecture of Archlinux32 fails to build currently (Python module issues).

Sorry i am in ArchLinux XFCE in VirtualBox ... Manjaro asks if i trust Mozilla key. But i did not continue because i use the Mozilla version of thunderbird-esr, that updates itself !

In german:
pamac gives this error message:
==> Überprüfe Signaturen der Quell-Dateien mit gpg... thunderbird-128.10.2esr-x86_64.tar.bz2 ... FEHLGESCHLAGEN (Unbekannter öffentlicher Schlüssel 5ECB6497C1A20256) ==> FEHLER: Eine oder mehrere PGP-Signaturen konnten nicht überprüft werden! Fehler beim Erstellen von thunderbird-esr-bin
I am on Manjaro XFCE stable branch but i think that does not matter
