just installed arch and apparently can't downgrade vala. hoping this incompatibility issue gets fixed so I can continue messing with arch safely :)

great work severach!

Its an incompatibility with vala 0.42.5. Builds fine in 0.42.4.

Anyone else getting this error trying to update?

Can you add vte3 to depends (not makedepends)? It doesn't run without it.

cronie is the only repo package that provides crontab so I changed the depends to cronie. I'll wait for complaints from other cron compatible packages on the AUR to see if there's a better way to get cron.

Arch generally doesn't automatically enable services. Cronie and timeshift are not related and cronie is only needed for automatic backups. What I can do is harass you on each package upgrade until you enable it.

Can you add this step when you install timeshift from the AUR?

systemctl enable cronie.service
systemctl start cronie.service

Without this service enabled Timeshift can't backup automatically the OS. Or where we can put this in the Arch Wiki or a pinned comment here. Because I had tried a lot of things until discover that I have to enable cronie.

When I install timeshift aurman ask to me if I want to choose cronie or fcron as a cron provider, but the author says fcron is not supported Can you change the package dependencies to fix this?

I've see pacman 5.0 mishandle deps before. So far it has been too rare to report and I've only seen it on Antergos.

Got this after "pacman -Rns $(pacman -Qtdq)" removed vte3(marked as make):

$ timeshift timeshift: error while loading shared libraries: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

"pacman -Syu vte3" fixed it, then "pacman -Rns $(pacman -Qtdq)" does not returned vte3 anymore as a orphan.

The new version finally needs Vala 0.38, for anyone running into problems.
