Hey all! Two small announcements:

  1. If you ever notice the package is out of date, please flag it and it'll notify me!

  2. If you know how to perform unattended installs of AppImages that don't require appimagelauncher, please drop a comment with info here. appimagelauncher seems to break often, and the closest alternative I've seen (gearlever) doesn't have an unattended CLI install option.

Thanks all!

Not sure if this is related to the fact that its out of date, but logging in doesn't seem to work, nothing happens when you click on open after logging in from browser and pasting the url from the browser into magic link also doesnt work...

Edit: Manually edited PKGBUILD and updated to latest version. It seems it also fixed the issue.

pkgver=8.17.3

@kostrse, I am a heavy user of todoist and would be happy to help out with keeping this up-to-date but am not familiar with how the AUR works - let me know if you'd still want the help :)

So, I was the one who commented appimagelauncher is needed for me to run the program. I uninstalled appimagelauncher and got this when trying to run todoist:

bash: /usr/bin/todoist: cannot execute: required file not found

I tried rebuilding/reinstalling the todoist-appimage package after uninstalling appimagelauncher, and got this error:

/home/username/.cache/pikaur/build/todoist-appimage/PKGBUILD: line 25: ./todoist-appimage-8.15.5.AppImage: cannot execute: required file not found

Google seems to indicate it happens because I don't have appimagelauncher. At least this one says that: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/72658512/appimage-builder-v1-0-3

I reinstalled appimagelauncher, and both problems disappeared. The installation takes a long time with my internet and laptop, and one of the github's source doesn't want to connect with my vpn. So I will not further test this. Todoist is also integral for my work. The other package appimagelauncher-bin unfortunately looks problematic from the submitter's comment.

All of the above were done with pikaur AUR helper.
I haven't tried todoist-appimage-integration to see if it fixes the whole thing.

I'm on xfce btw.

Looks like Todoist has moved to a .net TLD and slightly changed the URL pattern but putting the build arch at the end. They've also started using sha512 sums for validation. Here's the update I had to make to the PKGBUILD for 8.14.1:

source_x86_64=("${_appimage}::https://electron-dl.todoist.net/linux/Todoist-linux-${pkgver}-x86_64.AppImage")
sha512sums_x86_64=('8f67d0bb2d76f50fc7ec3addcb4d717a265d87b374154398a4177a6bf1f42362e19cbe1f3766362c830402ae83134cc6ec215a87b1d65228cee63cc63cea2e5f')

Since 8.8.2-1 appimagelauncher became optional dependency, please let me know if it breaks your experience.

Regarding dependency on appimagelauncher.

It was mentioned in the comments below that in some environments (e.g. Xfce) Todoist requires the appimagelauncher to work. This also mentioned on their website here.

On the other hand, in KDE, at least for me, Todoist seems to work perfectly fine without appimagelauncher.

Also, appimagelauncher is a kinda intrusive/opinionated application, which affects how AppImage works on the system, not only Todoist.

Does it make sense to make it an optional dependency, to not force it on users who do not experience any problems? Or does it make sense to introduce a separate AUR package without dependency on it (e.g. todist-appimage-nolauncher)?

Hello, this package was orphan, so I took ownership over it and updated to the latest release version.

Please let me know if it if you experience any problems.

Also, please feel free to reach me if you would want to become a co-maintainer.
