In a recent release, the upstream project author chose to include a so-called mantra miner, a fun little thread that recites spiritual messages into a buffer in a loop.
The miner appears to be completely harmless for users. The thread that it runs in probably consumes 0,000 % additional electricity. But that doesn’t change the fact that this is a potentially unwanted piece of software, which has been specifically designed to keep the user unaware of the fact that it’s running.
I do realize that it’s just a fun thing, and I may be overreacting. But I strongly feel that today’s world is no longer a place where we should hide any kind of behavior in software, even if it’s just a little thread that recites mantras. Consequently, I no longer wish to maintain this package.
