@laenan I guess upstream forgot to update the readme. You can also see the version changes at google/fonts/ofl/merriweathersans commit history. I considered using the google/fonts repo, but standard and variable fonts are split across different commits.

@xiota Can confirm. 2.001. Weird, haven't expected that. Thx for showing and explaining! I would have never found that!

@laenan Open the font files in an editor and check the version field.

I'm confused by the update to a v2.001. Source is still at v1.008, according to the CHANGELOG readme section. The new commit is linked to a regenerate commit from 2020. I cannot judge what the background of this change is, can s.o. please advise?

Please remove the xorg-font-encodings dependency, this package is blocking google-fonts.

Please remove the obsolete xorg-fonts-encodings dependency and set the license field to just
=('OFL')

Following upstream changes [1,2] we need to clean deps array.

It addition to xorg-font-utils please drop the fontconfig and xorg-font-encodings dependencies. Font package should have no dependencies except in special cases, which this font is not. All those things are long obsolete and solved other ways.
Also the license field should be just
=('OFL')

The package xorg-font-utils has been removed from the Arch repositories, this package cannot be built and installed anymore.

Possible bug: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/48061722/why-merriweather-sans-duplicate-l-in-flying-point In google typing "Col·laborador" seems ok [https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Merriweather+Sans]
