What I'm pointing is the origin for these files is an invalid source. So this is not a CDN provided by MS but a mere unofficial/pirated copy someone else uploaded somewhere. This is the reason I asked you if those links are documented somewhere from official MS sources, but based from your replies it seems they are not endorsed by MS in any way.

Therefore this package has no real meaning to exist, apart saving some GB of traffic to download the ISO, a duplicate package for a unofficial/pirated copy of the MS fonts, extracted from the known source providing them (the Windows ISO file).

@Muflone I think I fail to see the difference: Regardless if you download chunks of the iso or if you download them from a CDN, you're allowed to only use them if you have a valid Windows license for the System you're using it on. Aka, you're having basically a spare License for the Linux system.

This package does show the same notice about this as the "chucks of ISO from Microsoft" package shows.

echo 'Please note, that usage of Microsoft fonts outside running Windows'
echo 'system is prohibited by EULA (although in certain countries EULA is invalid).'
echo 'Please consult Microsoft license before using fonts.'

So if using the files outside of Windows, is the culprit here, please go ahead and delete all packages. Otherwise, I don't see why fetching the file from a CDN instead of extracting them from an ISO from Microsoft is an issue. Both are technically not how those fonts are supposed to be used, according to the license agreement.

@RubenKelevra thank you for clarifying the situation but such fonts are copyrighted works and gathering from any non official sources violates the copyright owner license I believe.

Also, even if they are fonts only, the ipfs source is not an upstream source, so an unofficial way to get a copyrighted work.

for this reason I'm willing to accept the pending deletion request

@Muflone well I think there's a misconception here: IPFS is locating the files just by their hash. So there's no "URL" involved, as there's nothing defining the location.

Those files are just fetched off of any source which provides them and is offered through a gateway which creates the http stream.

So the system acts more like a CDN.

At the time of creation the files were on ipfs already, likely offered there by archive.org.

Hope this helps to judge this case.

Or is it able to use https://software.download.prss.microsoft.com/dbazure/Win11_24H2_EnglishInternational_x64.iso with hacking DLAGENTS? (I'm unclear about law.)

@RubenKelevra can do you please share an official MS source showing these ipfs hosted URLs are provided by MS and therefore official?

There's a pending deletion request and I'm not sure these sources are pirated

@Technetium1 yeah, thanks for the headups. Looks like I missed the notifications on your post. I've switched the default to ipfs.io.
