Yeah, preserving suid + message seems better solution to me. BTW I support Ubuntu package as well. That package was added well before the tup chroot feature appeared.

I'm not sure what's "normal practice" here. Certainly several other packages contain suid root binaries. On the other hand the Ubuntu tup package linked from http://gittup.org/tup/ doesn't have the suid bit set. So it seems that the current "normal" for tup is to not set it by default after all. Preserving the bit would definitely be helpful. Maybe also add a postinstall message saying something like: "To unlock all features of tup, run chmod u+s /usr/bin/tup as root. This is not done by default due to security concerns."

Honestly I am a little bit worried to set suid by default. Is it normal practice to have suid binaries? Would it be better if user set suid manually? We can preserve this bit over package upgrade.

It would be nice if the tup binary were installed as suid root, so that the chroot features work out of the box.

Hi, I am a tup contributor, I added tup packages to Homebrew and MacPorts managers. I would like to adapt the Arch package and keep supporting it. Currently package works fine, but in the future if anything changes I'll be glad to fix it.

I'm no longer using Arch Linux, thus I'm disowning this package. Since it is a git package it is probably still working though.

I have adopted and updated this package to work properly again.

The latest version of tup does not build tup-ldpreload.so file anymore. Tup now uses fuse library.
