@msheremet: Thanks for the tip; I did, and I see that the upwork package is at the same version now. Actually, when I made the changes I cheated and used bits from lybin and from debtap. The latter pulled in WAY too many dependencies. I'm going to copy lybin's current PKGBUILD and use it as a template for the next version, in case upwork goes back to having a stable and beta again. I usually run beta anyway.

Well, if I didn't post the comment here I would never get clarification though. So the confusion is coming from upwork download page still showing beta version download link while the beta version has been pushed to stable.

In any case, thanks for updating this package to v5.1.

@rashi

so I came here and found out you have downgraded the app to v4.2.

It was upgraded to beta by mistake, so I reverted it back to stable. Btw, it was on Feb 9.

I have uninstalled the v5.0 and reinstalled the v4.2, and the app is still trying to update itself to v5.1.

It could work between Feb 9 and May 2, but not after they pushed v5 to stable.

I don't think you should downgrade to v4.2, if you check the upowork app download page for linux: https://www.upwork.com/downloads?source=Footer, both stable and beta version link are v5.1, it's probably intentional from upwork dev that the linux version doesn't have separation of stable and beta version thus why the auto-update is always triggered on any versions.

I don't think you should post comments unless you know what you're talking about. Those links were different before May 2. And they will be different again once Upwork releases the next beta.

I hope you can revert your decision, I don't think we need upwork-beta for above reason. If you want to keep your decision, I hope you could update the upwork beta package to v5.1, because this persistent auto-update issue is very annoying.

I don't see any wrong decision. This package does and will follow upstream stable version. Though there can be several days delay due to human factors.

For a workaround, I have used impankratov's pkgbuild script and adjusted it to v5.1: https://pastebin.com/r3MfbErZ

@regeya upwork-beta AUR package is orphan at the moment. So anyone can pick it up and maintain.

I haven't tried the current stable version on Ubuntu Xenial, partially because the stable version won't install. Apparently Ubuntu doesn't ship gksu anymore but Upwork still depends on it.

I went into the PKGBUILD and changed a few things to install 5.1.0.488. I don't know if this breaks any dependencies; it's solely on a "worksforme" basis at this point. The current beta breaks their URL convention–the rawver is transposed once–so that's why I hard coded it in the url. Also apparently .deb files use .xz instead of .gz now.

If I knew how to create and submit an up-to-date upwork-beta, I surely would.
