It's been available for a long time. It's a server edition and doesn't have a GUI.

Yes, but Pastebin next time. It also handles the white spaces better.

I have arch 86_64 and use separate wine folders for 32 and 64. But your launcher have hardcoded wine "~/.wine" directory. Would you consider making several changes to your launcher, so that I and other people who may have similar problems don't need to hardcode wineprefix manually and use environment variable instead(this shouldn't change the default behavior):

Soukyuu commented on 2014-06-08 00:14

I deleted my previous comment because I was testing it in a VM first.
As I thought, the heavy redraw issues were coming from the less-than-stellar virtualbox driver. On real hardware, everything works more or less fine. Minor redraw issues, but nothing too annoying.

Det commented on 2014-06-04 01:10

@Soukyuu, using the default emulation level (Win 7) and disabling "sys.enable_wine_hacks" should be fine. Clicking "Bundles" and back also helps redraw the torrent section.

For more testing info, see: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=22031

Soukyuu commented on 2014-05-25 11:46

Hmm... I'm getting very nasty GUI redraw issues, are there any special settings I have to change in wine to get around that? So far I only installed this package, which pulled wine for me, and installed wine_gecko & wine-mono packages.

3.4.1.30740-1 is considered a downgrade from 3.4.30660-1, so to avoid the use of an epoch I guess I'll have to call the whole 3.4.x series simply by the major version.

Det commented on 2014-03-09 19:40

Actually yes. It seems the decade-old settings are the culprit (/usr/share/utorrent/settings.dat).

I simply changed it to an empty file, but sadly it will not be automatically replaced on previous installations.

It's also sad, if you've included lots of your own configurations.

Det commented on 2013-07-03 11:11

Well 3.3.1 is finally here. A boring changelog:

"µTorrent 3.3.1: Automatic updating, fit-and-finish improvements

µTorrent 3.3.1 joins the list of modern software that's enabling silent, automatic updating. This means that stability improvements, small features and performance enhancements can be passed on without the need for upfront steps by the user.

Among other minor changes for this point release is improved overall fit and finish of the UI. This was achieved through many small adjustments including consolidation of icons, improvement in image quality, and removal of unnecessary lines and spaces. The cumulative result is a less distracting, more organized look that preserves the user experience you're used to.

In addition, we made numerous crash, stability and other improvements (examples: checked 0.0%, rate limiter, increased magnet link size, crash fix in the Plus player)."

@Det Will be using cower in the future. Thanks for the tip!

Det commented on 2013-06-13 18:02

That's an interesting workflow when you could just use something like yaourt or, in this case, cower.

Then you could at least skip the download/extraction with something like:

$ cd ~/Downloads
$ cower -d utorrent
$ cd utorrent
$ makepkg -si --skipinteg

Or if you were to create a script, e.g. (named 'ms', supports multiple arguments): http://pastebin.com/ZtREdmYh

Then you could just say 'ms utorrent'.

Anonymous comment on 2013-06-13 17:30

I have downloaded the tarball and installing it manually worked!

$ cd ~/Downloads
$ wget https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ut/utorrent/utorrent.tar.gz
$ tar -xzf utorrent.tar.gz
$ cd utorrent
$ makepkg -si --skipchecksums

Thanks for the quick response. :)

Det commented on 2013-06-13 17:06

I originally thought you just had the old one in your build dir, but actually when trying to download that thing I seem to be getting _3_ kinds of utorrents.

The first two are this thing with the exact same size but different md5sums, while the last one is the not-yet-released 3.3.1 build 29801 (as an RC in here: http://www.utorrent.com/downloads/win). The one from the RC link is also different from these 3.

I can't really instruct you to do anything here, except to skip the md5sums with '(makepkg -si) --skipinteg', generate them with 'updpkgsums' or just manually "update" them.

When I download utorrent.exe from the link in the description I get the same checksum I found in the PKGBUILD:

Could the capital T be the problem (utorrent.exe vs uTorrent.exe)?

Det commented on 2013-03-20 11:01

Here's a little update:

PKGBUILD:
- fix the URL to fit the AUR parser
- add apostrophes (') where they are commonly used
- remove the makedeps from base/-devel and the '!strip' option
- use the package() function and tide it up
- don't install the redundant 'pixmaps' icon
- recreate the tarball with the correct permissions (instead of just chmodding it)
- add dependencies

(overall managed to cut the 56 lines down to 43 (-13))

launcher:
- convert the 185 lines of C in 'wine-executor.c' to 16 lines of Bash in the launcher
- let the user decide with the variables
- replace exits with '-e' in the shebang
- use the install more 'efficiently'

other:
- add .install
- update settings (remove sponsor/plus ads along with obsolete wine hacks, etc.)
- fix the .desktop

Overall I wouldn't say nothing too serious was done outside just the maintainability and some standards so if you wanna rebuild, please do. Everybody else won't be forced to.

Btw. the "Antivirus/Plus nag" you get when opening the location of a finished torrent is still there because the only way to get rid of the black background (which you get every time on the following launch after starting a torrent) is to go to 'Featured Content' and back. But it's only temporary and it's also gonna make utorrent to hang on exit.

@gf0710020216: this could be a problem since utorrent stores its settings to ~/.utorrent for each user it runs it. pkgbuild/makepkg is not a proper tool to tinker with home directories of multiple users. you could try running the following (as user) manually to pull language pack for utorrent: wget -qO ~/.utorrent/utorrent.lng http://www.utorrent.com/scripts/dl.php\?build=$(pacman -Q utorrent|awk '{split($2,ar,/[_-]/);print ar[2]}')\&client=utorrent

@ jose1711
thanks bro

jose1711 commented on 2011-07-06 09:02

no problems apart from black background in torrent list. this has already been reported upstream

sva_h4cky0 commented on 2011-07-05 10:20

Does anyone having problem with version 3.0?

jose1711 commented on 2011-01-20 11:32

> why my name disappeared from the Contributor field?

i did not tamper the header. it must've been removed before i adopted the pkgbuild. i'll fix binthat bin32-wine dependency later, thanks for letting me know

ezzetabi commented on 2011-01-20 11:20

Now that Arch64 wine package is called wine there is no need to keep the old name bin32-wine.
Just for curiosity, why my name disappeared from the Contributor field?

Your tarball has some issues. AUR guidelines suggest to not include binaries. Take for example:
utorrent/icons.tar.gz
utorrent/settings.dat
Try to find sources for the binaries instead of embedding them. Besides, what is the point to tarballing already compressed files? Please correct this.

sva_h4cky0 commented on 2010-12-04 13:50

yes same here, it's take alot cpu. try 2.2.1 beta instead

jose1711 commented on 2010-11-24 19:15

does anybody else have a problem (freezing, redraw issues) with utorrent 2.2.x or is it just me?

jose1711 commented on 2010-11-20 23:36

the latest build (23235) does not run on my computer - i'm not updating pkgbuild until it's fixed

mandog commented on 2010-11-13 10:26

Its already reported in the wine bugzilla i will also report.

jose1711 commented on 2010-11-12 20:15

maybe it's worth filing a bug report at winehq.org

mandog commented on 2010-11-12 20:12

going back to 2.0.x release works fine.

jose1711 commented on 2010-11-12 19:35

you may also want to try to go back to 2.0.x release. change source to http://download.utorrent.com/2.0/utorrent.exe and regenerate md5sums

mandog commented on 2010-11-12 19:31

It was working perfect before this update I don't know anything was updated with wine but before your 29/10/10 release which worked Ok. I used utorrent off the from the desktop but now that does not work as well so I think its a wine dependency

jose1711 commented on 2010-11-12 18:35

if more users on 64b will report the same i'll remove x86_64 arch tag

mandog commented on 2010-11-12 18:31

It may be to do with the fact I use 64bt as i said it builds OK creates utorrent ~folder my cpu goes to 50% then nothing else happens and the only thing to do is Reboot this is the latest terminal message The databases in [/dev/null/applications] could not be updated.

jose1711 commented on 2010-11-12 18:13

tried to rename ~/.utorrent directory and reran utorrent. it worked okay. inside ~/.utorrent the following structure has been created: http://aur.pastebin.com/bQfmUZYd

mandog commented on 2010-11-12 07:12

Utorrent does not work fullstop, It builds OK but does not start. i get this in terminal wine: cannot find '/home/#######/.utorrent/utorrent'
the folder Is where it should be.

jose1711 commented on 2010-11-12 00:11

@mandog: what exactly does not work? thanks, joe

mandog commented on 2010-11-11 22:37

jose1711 commented on 2010-09-29 17:34

Anonymous comment on 2010-09-23 15:29

jose1711 commented on 2010-09-04 09:16

do you think you could create a pkgbuild for this http://www.utorrent.com/downloads/linux ?

Anonymous comment on 2010-08-13 08:30

New version 2.0.3 is coming.

jose1711 commented on 2010-07-25 08:53

some icons are no more shown - the problem might have appeared with wine upgrade. anyone experiences the same?

ezzetabi commented on 2010-07-05 13:26

Well, I guess that if no-one answers it means no-one cares.

ezzetabi commented on 2010-06-24 16:36

According to the Announcements forum section the 2.0.2 build 19648 is still the most recent. Unflagging out-of-date.

It is already some time that Transmission is as good as uTorrent; is anyone interested to adopt this package if I disown it?

utorrent the MD5 fails. 04B2D5A4342DDEFD17477FEAD8889DB6 is correct.

mgmartins commented on 2010-04-08 21:20

I get an error when I try to update. It says utorrent file validation has failed (bad CRC?)
