Another bug I noticed which occurs with the latest version of vala-panel-appmenu-xfce, but not with aa25801b (did not extensively try the commits in between): For both Firefox-appmenu as well as for Chromium, not the first (leftmost) title bar item is displayed in bold (if that option has been ticked), but the last (rightmost) one. This not only happens unter certain circumstances, but apparently now always for at least those two applications. It's surely somehow related to https://gitlab.com/vala-panel-project/vala-panel-appmenu/-/issues/377

After installing and testing the code I can now report that the bug occurs with 57144e2d (and later). aa25801b is the last commit which does not exhibit that behaviour. The commit "at fault" is entitled "all: get rid from BAMF".

After further testing I can now report that the problem (registar not running on first login after boot) is already present in 0.7.7 while it was not in 0.7.6. I'll try to narrow it down even further.

There is definitely something strange going on with this and the vala-panel-appmenu-common-git package..

error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)

vala-panel-appmenu-xfce-git: /usr/share/applets/org.valapanel.appmenu.plugin exists in filesystem (owned by vala-panel-appmenu-common-git)

Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

However with just the common one installed I can't see the appmenu applet for xfce4 panel like I used to...

Also, I see that the clone URL is the same for both ( https://aur.archlinux.org/vala-panel-appmenu-xfce-git.git ), and vala-panel-appmenu-common-git is required by vala-panel-appmenu-xfce-git. So what should I install to have it in xfce4-panel?

I'll try to come up with more precise information. Until then I can tell you that the version of registrar does not have an influence on the issue, i.e. does not make a difference. The problem as described does occur with the version of the applet (vala-panel-appmenu-common-git and vala-panel-appmenu-xfce-git) 24.02.r18.g1d641f6-1. It does not occur with vala-panel-appmenu-common and vala-panel-appmenu-xfce 0.7.6-3. It did not occur with the AUR git versions from last year. I'll try to narrow this down further.

I want: 1. Version of registrar (both old and new) 2. Version of applet (both old and new)

I do not change anything dbus-related in registrar in 24.02.

I've installed it via AUR; it's 24.02.r18.g1d641f6-1. /usr/lib/vala-panel/appmenu-registrar -v yields Version 24.02-18-g1d641f6.

@gshwarts what version you exactly installed to revert a behaviour? Please, write full version with commit hash, if possible.

Unfortunately adding /usr/lib/vala-panel/appmenu-registrar as a startup item turns out not to solve things (nor make any difference, i.e. it is not necessary either). On Manjaro with XFCE, on the first login after a reboot, /usr/lib/vala-panel/appmenu-registrar does not run. Only when you log out and log in again does /usr/lib/vala-panel/appmenu-registrar run, and everyting works fine. This behaviour only occurs since the recent update of vala-panel-appmenu-xfce-git. Is there a way i can figure out why /usr/lib/vala-panel/appmenu-registrar does not run (or maybe directly terminates) on the first login after a reboot? What could be different with subsequent logins?

I see, you just mean whether or not that process is running. It is not. I added a startup item which launches /usr/lib/vala-panel/appmenu-registrar This seems to fix things. I'm wondering though why this is necessary. With the previous installation the registrar process had been launched without such an explicit entry.
