When installing, I recommend you install the optional 'vcash' (or 'vcash-bin') package which builds the actual daemon from source.

If you do not install the optional package, then the GUI has no daemon to connect to, unless you have the daemon running separately, or use it to SSH to a wallet on a different PC.
