@quellen The configuration file location is hard coded in the application source code and was too troublesome for me to change. You can open an upstream issue for this feature.

why is the general.cfg configuration file located in /usr instead of home?

@rezad That's weird. I can't reproduce that behavior. Opening the app from the Application menu on Gnome works as intended. It's creating a now folder in the home directory called VideoSubFinder which contains all the folders that you mentioned (see desktop file). Maybe the desktop file in this package is not compatible with your desktop environment. Which desktop environment are you running? I might be able to fix this.

this app creates many folders in home folder of user. can the folders be moved to a single folder (containing the folders) in home or maybe /tmp folder.

I get these two errors upon closing the app.

can't open file '/usr/share/VideoSubFinder/previous_data.inf' (error 13: Permission denied)

can't open file '/usr/share/VideoSubFinder/settings/general.cfg' (error 13: Permission denied)

@Sematre oh my bad. I just read this "now using git to pull the repository" and assumed otherwise. sorry.

@rezad the package is still using the tagged versions from upstream, so calling it videosubfinder-git would be wrong as it's NOT using the master branch. The new behavior is identical to the previous one that downloaded a zip file. The only difference is that this method actually works long term.

if this does use git now, can it be renamed to videosubfinder-git? or is this temporary?

Sematre commented on 2023-05-01 00:37 (UTC)

Package has been updated and is now using git to pull the repository. I probably need to fix some (upstream) permission/ownership issues but it should be working for now.

Looks like the download link from SourceForge has an expiry date. I reactivated the download link, so it should be working again. When my computer is up and running again in about one or two weeks, I'm going to switch the build process to Git.
