There is no version dependency on this package on purpose! You could read comments back from 2011 to understand why.

I'm a bit curious as to why 7.0.6 and 7.0.6a-155176 are the same, but 7.0.6-155176 appears to be different. Anyone know the reason for this?

@seblu (and @eworm): I'd be happy to contribute to maintaining this package if you want some extra help. At the very least to fix the current checksum mismatch.

@HD_hirku: ^ THAT is how you constructively add to this community, not by being rude and flippant to the people donating their time (which is often in short supply) to maintain the packages that you use for free. That attitude is not welcome in communities such as this one. For your own sake, I hope you find the ability to be less entitled in the future.

@HD_hirku: Firstly, I don't appreciate your wording. Using Capitals means screaming at others which I feel is not appropriate here. Even more since you are wrong, at least partly. So let me introduce you to the confusing way Oracle handles this: If you don't just click the hyperlink but have a look at the underlying directory (https://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/7.0.6/) you will realize that there are three versions of Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-7.0.6(a) there, two with a build number and one without. Having a look at the SHA256SUMS file in the same directory you will realize that the 7.0.6 file without build number and the 7.06a file have the same hash which means they are identical. The only issue in the PKGBUILD here is that the hash is wrong because it is still the old one. It is rather easy to take the correct hash from the SHA256SUMS and edit the PKGBUILD to reflect the change. Again, please think about your attitude. Everyone here in the AUR is doing this in his spare time so please be thankful for all the work done so far!

Hey yochananmarqos, let me introduce you to something called a hyperlink:

https://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/7.0.6/Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-7.0.6a-155176.vbox-extpack

Well look at that! 7.0.6a is the latest, not 7.0.6! WOW!!!!!!!!!!

* FLAG AS OUT OF DATE UNTIL MAINTAINER GETS WITH THE PROGRAM ****

zeroflag commented on 2023-03-01 09:30 (UTC)

Why does the maintainer has the time to unflag this package from the out-of-date status, when it actually is, and not update the PKBUILD with the current file checksum is beyond me.

zeroflag commented on 2023-03-01 09:23 (UTC) (edited on 2023-03-01 09:27 (UTC) by zeroflag)

There is a new version of the extpack file. Hence a new checksum: $ sha256sum Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-7.0.6.vbox-extpack 292961aa8723b54f96f89f6d8abf7d8e29259d94b7de831dbffb9ae15d346434

==> Validating source files with sha256sums... Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-7.0.6.vbox-extpack ... FAILED ==> ERROR: One or more files did not pass the validity check! -> error downloading sources: virtualbox-ext-oracle context: exit status 1

@HD_hirku: The package is not out of date, please unflag it and close the orphan request.

HD_hirku commented on 2023-02-24 18:55 (UTC)

Coming upon a month out of date...... When can we see an update on this package?

LizziAS commented on 2023-02-14 17:14 (UTC)

there may not be any cversion checking but that may be the cause of the wrong checksum. this package fails the checksum and will not install

LizziAS commented on 2023-02-14 02:10 (UTC)

the version i dont even see on their website and the checksum doesn't match current version
