@knoelli thank you very much, that works just fine. i do not have any special characters or something in my build directory. but your hint works. thx

@obscure The build script checks your current path if it contains any other character apart from letters A-Z and a-z, numbers 0-9, slash /, backslash \, $, :, ., _ and -. So make sure to build the package in a directory that does not contain any special characters like umlauts, accents, etc. In case you use an AUR manager like yay or the like, you most probably have a special character in your home directory (user) name.

You could try the following:

cd /tmp
git checkout https://aur.archlinux.org/virtualbox-kvm.git
cd virtualbox-kvm
makepkg

That should build the package just fine, but be sure to keep a copy of virtualbox-kvm-20240226-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst in a place outside /tmp. Install manually using pacman.

Did not work for me.

I always get the error message:

==> Starting build()... Build virtualbox-kvm Error: VBox base path contains invalid characters! ==> ERROR: A failure occurred in build(). Aborting...

Is that somnething with my system?

second with @kenoelli said, I was getting the same error until I rebuilt from the latest PKGBUILD. Also after removing / replacing the regular virtualbox did you reboot to clear out the old vobxdrv module?

knoelli commented on 2024-02-13 19:55 (UTC)

@tomsk Are you using the latest PKGBUILD 20240208-2? I used to have exactly the same error message with PKGBUILD 20240208-1 but the changes xyzzy committed recently fixed the issue.

Runs fine here :-) Maybe you can add optional language-files for virtualbox as well. These are available as ts-files as shown here: https://www.virtualbox.org/download/testcase/nls/trunk/

I get an error, when I try to start VM (it worked with normal virtualbox):

Invalid function. (VERR_INVALID_FUNCTION). Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0X80004005) Component: ConsoleWrap Interface: IConsole {6ac83d89-6ee7-4e33-8ae6-b257b2e81be8}

I have been testing this and it works surprisingly well without the need to compile the modules. For my use it is more than enough, so I don't need the official version anymore. Kudos to the developers. The only flaw is that the program is not translated into my language.

As for the package, the references to the modules should be removed, as they are not needed.
