@rnbguy It did pick it up when I tried, and I updated the package, too.

can you use -V/--version-sort with sort command in update_pkg.sh? It's not picking the correct latest version.

@direc85 I created this package when update-ffmpeg wasn't available (or wasn't working, I don't remember). As for vivaldi-ffmpeg-codecs, it does the job fine but I didn't want to download and compile the whole chromium source just to do the same job a pre-compiled shared library could.

As stated before, I no longer use vivaldi, nor do I get enough time to maintain this package. If there is a better alternative, by all means do use it. I "maintain" the package (if you can call it maintaining) just because its apparently useful to some people.

As of date, Ubuntu has stepped its version up from 18.04.1 to 18.04.2. This has not been incorporated into the repo yet, so to get this package building again:

  1. replace the string 18.04.1 with 18.04.2 in both update_pkg.sh and PKGBUILD
  2. run makepkg
  3. install the output (.pkg.tar.xz file) with pacman -U

Today is Nov 9th of 2019 I get that this package is out of date again and as you say you can to the ./update_pkg.sh on this package and makepkg. But this time it is not working for some reason. The script ./update_pkg.sh just blinks for a few second then hangs and never completes its operation so something else is wrong too.

I was just wondering; doesn't sudo /opt/vivaldi/update-ffmpeg as suggested in Vivaldi HTML5 test page [1] do the same thing? Why do we need this package at all? Then again, the current Vivaldi browser provides version 77, too.

I noticed that there's a package called vivaldi-ffmpeg-codecs [2] which has Herecura repository [3] as a pinned comment. Doesn't all that make this package, well, redundant?

Just food for thought.

It looks like Ubuntu has moved the necessary package from a Debian package to a snap package. The only package referring to Chromium 78 release [1] says the following:

"Transitional package - chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra -> chromium-ffmpeg snap

This is a transitional dummy package. It can safely be removed.

chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra is now replaced by the chromium-ffmpeg snap."

@mplx I've reverted the version for now, looks like the newer ubuntu package is missing the required file

vivaldi-codecs-ffmpeg-extra-bin 77.0.3865.90-1 -> 78.0.3904.70-

makepkg ==> Starting package()... install: cannot stat '/home/<user>/vivaldi-codecs-ffmpeg-extra-bin/src/usr/lib/chromium-browser/libffmpeg.so': No such file or directory

@direc85 thanks for the flag. I've updated the package for now; I added you as a co-maintainer as well, feel free to update the package if/when it goes out of date :)
