If you want to test whether widevine plugin works, please check at https://bitmovin.com/demos/drm

Note: You do NOT need this package if you have Google Chrome installed.

Hi @envolution,

Thanks for reaching out!

I tested uninstalling vivaldi-widevine and installing chromium-widevine and I unexpectedly found that widevine worked exactly the same in Vivalvi. I remember I did this test in the past and it didn't work, because Vivaldi only used to look for the plugin under the /opt/google/chrome/WidevineCdm directory. However, it looks like now it's also considering /usr/lib/chromium/WidevineCdm as a valid path. This means, we can drop this package and use chromium-widevine as a replacement.

On a side note, I found the LICENSE file is added twice. It is at /usr/lib/chromium/WidevineCdm/LICENSE and /usr/share/licenses/chromium-widevine/LICENSE. So, I believe the former can be deleted.

@Everyone, please try replacing vivaldi-widevine with chromium-videvine and let us know if you notice any difference.

Regards.

Would you symlink to chromium-widevine if taking same version is always allowed?

This package uses /opt/google/chromium and conflicting with google-chrome. Does vivaldi have own path?

hi @Musikolo, I'm currently maintaining aur/chromium-widevine which seems to have a similar purpose of this package. Wondering if you agree there is an opportunity to merge and rename to something a bit more generic?

@TheGoliath, both Chrome 80 and 81 share the same shipped widevine plugin version. There is no reason to update this package until there is a Chrome version released with a newer shipped widevine plugin update.

I hope it makes sense to you.

Thank you.
