My apologies - I wasn't notified of your response.
# uname -r
# 4.12.8-2-ARCH
# ls /usr/lib/modules
# 4.12.8-2-ARCH extramodules-4.12-ARCH

The problem persists across restarts. Please let me know if I can supply any more information.

@khau can you show me the result of `uname -r` and `ls /usr/lib/modules/` ?
maybe you need a restart after your 'linux-headers' installed/upgraded.

I've run into a problem (had it for some time now) compiling under the lastest kernels.

# Failing to find /lib/modules/4.12.8-2-ARCH/build/include/linux/version.h
# ...
# W115: Failed to build vmmon. Failed to execute the build command.
# ...
# W115: Failed to build vmnet. Failed to execute the build command.
# ...

Attempted with and without ams1's and orson's fixes for VMware Workstation (each tried independently and simultaneously).

Building on:
Arch Linux 4.12.8-2 (x86_64)
Using headers:
core/linux-headers 4.12.8-2

Let me know if you need any more information on how I've been attempting to build, etc.

Also, please review this feature for inclusion:

I encoutered the "libz" problem and found that including all shipped libraries resolves it.

ams1 commented on 2017-07-12 09:27

Can you bake in the libz workaround, please?

# cd /usr/lib/vmware/lib/
# mv
# ln -s /usr/lib/ .

That would be very handy.

I second will.price94's comment. I had to apply these patches to run VMware Player 12.5.2 build-4638234 with kernel 4.11.6-3.

Note these are incremental patches, for me it was enough to rename them to
vmnet-12.5.2-4.11.patch and vmmon-12.5.2-4.11.patch, copy to /usr/lib/vmware/modules/patches and rerun vmware-patch. Now vmplayer is all up and running.

updated to 12.5.7, no changes were made except bumping version.

@all i tested thoese patches 2 months ago, it applied failed with vmware-12.5.6, and vmware-12.5.6 worked fine with 4.11 without any patches on my computer.
i'm sure i installed the latest version of vmware-patch with the newly installed vmware-12.5.6, it worked fine, but it seems not working well on someone else's system.
so i don't know what i should do with this problem now.
would you please provide more information for me? guys.
i started doing maintaining of this package since 2 or 3 versions ago.
I feel that my ability is not enough to keep it working properly, i need your help.
thanks for Det's great works and welcome to join the maintainers.

Currently seems to fail to compile on kernel 4.11

I applied the patches here:

with success
