When a package is updated with a new stable release, please mark out-of-date instead of adding a comment.

VVVVVV 2.2 is now out! Please update.

ejona86 commented on 2014-05-26 15:30

@neiesc. You need to download VVVVVV_2.01_Linux.tar.gz from wherever you purchased it from (generally Humble Bundle).

Did you actually READ the message that you pasted?
> Read this PKGBUILD for more info.

neiesc commented on 2014-05-26 01:44

Dosn't work for me.

Could not find hib://VVVVVV_2.01_Linux.tar.gz. Download manually to "/tmp/yaourt-tmp-user/aur-vvvvvv" or setup hib:// DLAGENT in /etc/makepkg.conf.
Read this PKGBUILD for more info.

If you run into problems with the beta, please say something. It seems to be a beta just in name and has many nice improvements.

ejona86 commented on 2013-11-25 05:42

Just looked into the the 2.1 beta's existence. I typically don't mess with betas, but this seems to be a beta just in name and that it may never be non-beta for non-obvious reasons. I'll play around with it and see how stable the beta actually is. I'll also have to decide whether I make people modify the script to enable the beta or have it be the default.

brandonw commented on 2013-11-23 01:15

Any possibility of patching this?

Install as normal, but then also update with the beta of 2.1: http://distractionware.com/forum/index.php?topic=693.0

It fixes some bugs and adds some new levels. I'm not sure as to the stability, though. All I know is the bug of saving time trials makes it mostly frustrating to play at this point :D

I have no idea how to make the hib:// work?

ejona86 commented on 2013-01-14 05:53

How do you feel about the hib:// DLAGENTS stuff that I introduced to this PKGBUILD? Is it a reasonable solution?

Anonymous comment on 2012-12-31 23:25

I get this message trying to install on a 32-bit system:

strip:./opt/games/VVVVVV/VVVVVV_64: File format not recognized
/usr/bin/fakeroot: line 181: 11998 User defined signal 1 FAKEROOTKEY=$FAKEROOTKEY LD_LIBRARY_PATH="$PATHS" LD_PRELOAD="$LIB" "$@"

Can be fixed by adding options=(!strip) to the PKGBUILD, or by detecting 32-bit systems and then deleting the VVVVVV_64 binary.

J0k3r commented on 2012-12-30 03:29

Hey, please install the game in /opt/games and not in /usr/share. i edited your PKGBUILD -> http://pastie.org/5595906

Anonymous comment on 2011-12-31 16:31

Just to note, you can get VVVVVV from the Humble Indue Bundle 4 as well, so you may want to detect _humblebundle 4 key too.

gadget3000 commented on 2011-08-10 07:59

@Hiroe Excellent idea. I'll start to implement this into my humble bundle PKGBUILDs now and I'll urge other maintainers to do the same once I have established a variable name.

Anonymous comment on 2011-08-08 22:25

For the install of all of these humble bundle games it would be nice to be able to either drop it in like we do now, or add your humble bundle key as a bash variable and have it auto download.

The key can be found at http://www.humblebundle.com/?key=XXXXXXXXXXXX Where XXXXXXXXXXXX is your key. If we can get this for all the humble bundle games we're happy, especially as far as automation goes.

Worked perfectly, many thanks.

You forgot to add gcc-libs to the depends array.
The start script should still by adapted.

Anonymous comment on 2011-08-05 18:02

@gadget3000:

Your PKGBUILD needs some fixes:

There are a lot of unneeded dependencies.
sdl_image, sdl_mixer and gcc-libs should be enough.

You should ship an adapted start script instead of the original one.
The orignal one unnecessarily adjusts LD_LIBRARY_PATH.

The file/directory ownerships are wrong.
All files in the filesystem belong to the user, who built the package.

gadget3000 commented on 2011-08-02 08:26

When testing which dependencies this package needed the first error it threw up was about libjpeg6. I then installed that and a libtiff error came up. That means that vvvvvv depends on libjpeg6 so it makes sense to list it as a dependency, rather than have another package provide it for you (in case libtiff's dependencies change or libtiff is no longer required by vvvvvv.).

Ideka commented on 2011-08-01 20:31

libtiff4 depends on libjpeg6, so libjpeg6 should be removed from the dependency list. I think.

chungy commented on 2011-07-27 17:35

This little package is turning out to be a bit of a nuisance... :P

The newer build has LIB32 and LIBS64 directories, so I'd put rm -fr LIB* or rm -fr LIB{32,S64} into the PKGBUILD instead (later is a bit "cleaner" since it specifies only the exact directories you want to remove, though it's a bit unlikely LIB* would ever be used for anything else...). Thanks for preferring the system packages over those though... things like fullscreen didn't work properly otherwise.

Is anyone else not getting sound? I just tried it and there was no sound (and no errors when starting it from the CLI). I'm on x64.

Hello, small update http://pastebin.com/CTZ0tYcP

Anonymous comment on 2011-07-27 08:26

Yeah, that was fast! Works flawlessly, only thing that could be better is the icon (a little more original and higher resolution for gnome-shell users).

Anonymous comment on 2011-07-27 06:41

@mario.torme
you can remove the VVVVVV_64 binary if you dont need it. then strip wont fail

Anonymous comment on 2011-07-27 00:57

To get this to work, I had to change /usr/bin/vvvvvv (or VVVVVV in the tarball) to this:

https://raw.github.com/gist/1108439/fa9e2ec1293985b7de1dcaf5a934bb6522583150/vvvvvv

Anonymous comment on 2011-07-26 22:55

I was able to install it, but I get this output when I try to run it:

./VVVVVV_64: /usr/lib/libjpeg.so.62: no version information available (required by ./LIB64/libSDL_image-1.2.so.0)
./VVVVVV_64: /usr/lib/libaa.so.1: no version information available (required by ./LIB64/libSDL-1.2.so.0)
./VVVVVV_64: /usr/lib/libjpeg.so.62: no version information available (required by /usr/lib/libtiff.so.4)

...and then the /usr/bin/vvvvvv script dies with a "1436 Segmentation fault"

I always forget .desktop files because I don't have a desktop manager. Thanks for your input, mikers. I've added your changes to the main PKGBUILD and added you as a contributor.

chungy commented on 2011-07-26 21:56

I've made another package that removes the LIB* directories (depends on native packages instead) and adds a .desktop files so that the game shows up on KDE/GNOME/Xfce/etc menus. It also renames the /usr/bin/VVVVVV launcher to all lower case, just "vvvvvv" (less awkward on Linux :p)
