AUR pacakges are for stable, numbered releases. If you want people to use a prerelease I'd recommend putting together a
-git
package. I'm also not really using web3j too much at the moment so if you want to be added as a maintainer or even take ownership of the package I'd be happy to give it up.Also: https://github.com/web3j/web3j/issues/732

We are planning on starting to releasing snapshot and alpha packages for web3j. In fact we are currently on 4.0-alpha https://github.com/web3j/web3j/releases. What is the best way to manage this on aur?

You need at least java 8 to use this library.
