Thanks for pushing! The mistake to not include --root & --optimize was my mistake, I checked the python packaging guidlines very hastily and assumed some magic that wasn't actually happening. Should have been in my patch. If and only if you need/decide to install the bundled accuraterip-checksum program, one can use this patch: http://sprunge.us/hRUO — but because most people using the AUR are using AUR helpers, and it's technically a duplication of effort, I don't recommend this get accepted into the current whipper-git package here.

Latest update was pushed. Downloads and builds fine with an AUR helper (for accuraterip-checksum). Sorry again for the delay, make sure to read the warning and let me know what you think!

**WARNING**: As of v0.2.4 (commit 746dc6599, 2016-10-09), backward incompatible changes were introduced concerning config/cache/state file paths to follow XDG standard and substitute every "morituri" occurrence by the fork name ("whipper"). This means that all previous configuration won't be reused after the upgrade without a manual intervention to use the new file paths. See the official README for details on those: https://github.com/JoeLametta/whipper#backward-incompatible-changes.

All right, I found my mistake: I forgot to add "--root="${pkgdir}"/ --optimize=1" to "python2 setup.py install". Right now it builds and run in a container, I will push the updated PKGBUILD for you to try.

@all Sorry for the delay, this update requires multiple changes and I'm having issues making it all work. @Freso Thanks a lot for your proposition, indeed I am a bit overwhelmed right now and lack the experience. I know from your work on other packages that having you on board will help guarantee the quality of this package. I just added you as co-maintainer :) Right now I've moved all optdepends to regular dependencies, so as to reduce unexpected errors and troubleshooting (see e.g. https://github.com/JoeLametta/whipper/issues/28). If somebody has issues with it, please say so and detail which dep should really stay optional. I have made the various changes suggest by @NicoHood and @Shardz (whom I credited as Contributor in the PKGBUILD for the nice patch), however I'm having two issues with it: - accuraterip-checksum is an AUR package, so building whipper with devtools' extra-x86_64_build script fails; - the build fails at the package() step with the following error: running install error: can't create or remove files in install directory The following error occurred while trying to add or remove files in the installation directory: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/test-easy-install-16383.write-test' The installation directory you specified (via --install-dir, --prefix, or the distutils default setting) was: /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/ Perhaps your account does not have write access to this directory? Any ideas on how to fix this? Current WIP PKGBUILD: http://sprunge.us/PNOF

@neitsab Feel free to add me as co-maintainer if you want some assistance in keeping the package updated. :)

Err, you will also need to accept the previous changes below regarding setuptools and musicbrainz, those are definitely dependencies at this point. Alternatively in the time being people can create a virtualenv w/ 2.7 and then git clone -> python setup.py develop/install. Should be a LOT easier than running uninstalled used to be. Yay setuptools!

Shardz commented on 2016-10-23 14:48 (UTC)

Sorry, I got a few patches accepted that moved from autoconf to setuptools and started to use sox for peak detection. Merlijn pushed a patch that switched to using accuraterip-checksum. So things broke! For Arch, since I have an AUR package I made for accuraterip-checksum, I didn't have the PKGBUILD build the bundled version (which is the same). It's mostly there for other distros. Here's a PKGBUILD patch that should set things right: http://sprunge.us/fHcJ

I get this error when trying to build whipper-git. /tmp/yaourt-tmp-gary/aur-whipper-git/./PKGBUILD: line 57: ./autogen.sh: No such file or directory

This change could also be helpful for this package: https://git.archlinux.org/svntogit/community.git/commit/trunk?h=packages/morituri&id=949bb2ce3c0e59a46d0cfe5db47630cc04e1603c
