@Strykar Nope, see https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/wine-ge-custom#comment-831304

You can grab compiled packages from https://github.com/loathingKernel/PKGBUILDs/releases/tag/packages

@thaewrapt, I see, you might be correct. The prebuilt package is not a good candidate for packaging for a couple of reasons. First of all, it is built using Lutris's runtime, and as such inherits the same issues as Proton, namely it is at its best when running inside that runtime. Also, although I might be wrong here, I haven't found any mention of Lutris being able to use a system-wide installation directory in the same way Steam can. For these reasons, I believe that packaging those binaries is pointless and they should be managed by Lutris itself.

@loathingkernel I've been experiencing audio crackled even since the last second update. Anyone else?

@loathingkernel It would be great if wine-cachyos was added here on the AUR (and then to Chaotic-AUR:)!

@niobium93 thanks very much for explaining, which package is the most updated one? thanks

niobium93 commented on 2024-06-11 06:16 (UTC)

@analgaming12 The version is correct. This is based on wine from Proton 8 which is based on Wine 8.0 Stable. That said this package is outdated won't get updated anymore.

I see that this should be version 8.26, but wine --version outputs "wine-ge-8.0 (Staging)." I have just installed this package. Am I misunderstanding how the versions work, or is something not right.

@niobium93 It's not going to happen, at least not under the name of wine-ge-custom. I cannot use and release stuff under someone else's name. Wine-ge-custom is GloriousEggroll's project and if they do not want to maintain it any more, we should respect that and not piggyback the name. These commits making it to this repository was due to my inability to reconcile the history of my main tracking repository after reverting these commits, so they stayed.

Of course my fork is not hidden, so if you want to build it for yourself, you are free to do so, but I am not going to update this AUR package further unless a release from GE happens.

On the other hand, we are doing a very similar wine build under the name wine-cachyos with the source available here https://github.com/CachyOS/wine-cachyos, which could become available on the AUR too at some point.

@loathingkernel I just saw in the commit log that you forked and updated wine-ge to version GE-Proton-9-5, but then reverted it. Is there a reason for that? Would love to see this get updated and maintained again...

@MikuroK Can't reproduce the failure https://github.com/loathingKernel/PKGBUILDs/actions/runs/8409579504

No longer builds with gstreamer update (1.24.1), downgrading gstreamer (to 1.24.0) fixes this. Throws "checking for gst_pad_new in -lgstreamer-1.0... no"
