I updated WineGUI today to v3.0.0, which is fully based on GTK4.

This WineGUI package on Arch will NO longer automatically check for updates, this is disabled by default. After all Arch is a rolling release. There is an option in the Preferences menu though.

I also updated the dependencies (gtkmm-4.0) and better support for winetricks in the depends as well (zenity used by winetricks), to give a better user experience out-of-the-box. If you really don't like this, I could move some depends to optional dependencies.

Have fun!

Ps. Keep in mind GTK4 might look different depending on your GTK4 theme support. Also GTK4 fully removed the GTK Toolbar support too bad ;(. I tried my best to provide the best experience of WineGUI in GTK4 despite several the fact that GTK4 removed several important GUI widgets.....

I'm migrated from GTK3 to GTK4 and with that I also introduce a build variable flag CHECK_FOR_UPDATE, which I soon will use during the build of WineGUI in AUR (in the PKGBUILD).

PR currently in review/testing: https://gitlab.melroy.org/melroy/winegui/-/merge_requests/41

remove that check for Arch Linux

Not tested, but should work.

prepare() {
   sed -i '/latest_release/c return;' src/main_window.cc
}

I did unblock several countries now from the firewall. Sorry, don't take it personal, this was due to DDos attack from those countries.

@Gaucho59 1. The popup shows all the MANUAL created shortcuts. 2. Try to not run additional processes/games or applications from that same wine bottle.. There might be something still running..? 3. That doesn't sound great. Could you run winegui via the terminal and maybe the terminal output give some better logging / errors? I do need more information. 4. It only connects to winegui.melroy.org during startup once, to validate if there is a new release. However, for rolling releases like Arch, there is no need! So I want to improve the WineGUI build and remove that check for Arch Linux (as well as for Void Linux).

Last question you had, was regarding this w10/11 to w8.1. Most likely a bug in checking the windows version under Wine, its not very straight forward to determine to Windows version using registry.. Microsoft, right? But that of course shouldn't happen, if you can help to debug that issue, please let me know.

Also, why does it always revert from W10/W11to Win 8.1 when i click update config?

Thanks for WineGui.

Here some hints / questions from my experience so far:

  1. The popup to remove application shortcuts only shows a blank / black screen and no check box or else to select something. Is this perhaps a bug? Or is this feature not yet fully implemented?

  2. When using "Configure" to install some packages, at times the installer in Wine says "successful ...", but WineGui seems to not get the feedback and takes forever to update / end the process

  3. Exiting Winegui not always ends it. Quit app via Sysmon doesn't work, It has to be killed to end it ...

  4. Why does it connect to winegui.melroy.org (Gvfsd Http)?

I can't download it from Russia. Can you unblock please, if there is some blocking involved. Thanks.
